david:
yeah that Cox LJ2 was one of my fav models as I could stick an A in it and
launch it in my backyard to maybe 100 ft as it was so heavy....

I only have 2 saturn V's and 2 1B's. I also have an honest john and X-15
and the launch pad kit. I think I will be keepig them for a while. I am
going
to get a V and 1B ready to launch in the very near future though. I am sure
nothing will go wrong :-) wrong wrong wrong wrong.

What's the big deal with these? Why are they worth so much? Were they
really any good?

Because they are so rare?

Well you didn't have to build anything, they are solid plastic.
Stick a motor or two in and go. So yes I think they are
worth something.

I think what makes them collectors items today is the fact they were the
first RTF model rockets. I can't remember completely, but I don't even think
you had to make the parachute. Plus they were pre-assembled in this thick
heavy pre-colored,pre-detailed plastic that was semi-impervious to the heat
from ejection charges...No recovery wadding needed!
MPC earlier had come out with the first e put-to-gether plastic model kits
(Titan 3-C, Vostok, etc) that happened to include internal bodys tubes and
such, required by model rockets. You could built it as a statisc display
model only or build it as a model rocket. Later on Cox even offered some
put-together versions of their Saturn Ib and Saturn5.

OK, thanks for that. I just thought with Estes having so much "ready to
crash trash" these days, that these weren't that a big deal.
I did see an Estes RTF SR-71 and SS1 at wallyworld the other day. Like most
RTF stuff, it looked heavy.
