Pete - 26 Mar 2006 23:05 GMT I remember not too long ago that this group used to have some model rocketry related posts. Where did they go?
I , for one, am sick of heatrig about Brad Guth's credentials or lack of them, and whether or not Thr Govt faked the Apollo oon landings and what is politically correct as far as drunks in bars.
Just to have some modroc content, I finished my Big Bretha 3 engine cluster and will paint it in a couple of days. Might be able to get some pics put up on ABPMR.

Ya know, I've been thinking the same thing of late, as well.
Just sold off most of my modroc bits and pieces; just don't have time for LPR anymore. I did keep some stuff, though, so my kids have something to fly when I they come to a launch with me.
Also just got word that a rocket I shipped to VA for painting is almost ready to come home. Should have it next week; can't wait to see it!

That goes for me too, as I'd much rather focus upon the sorts of small/compact rockets that'll best accomplish the most payload(s) of getting microsatellites to LL-1.

What the freaking hell has that pathetic statement got to do with the question of small multi-stage or composite rocket getting 10+kg to LL-1? - Brad Guth

I thought that there was a model rocket with the name of apollo, back in the late 70's. single stage, 3 fins, 2 chutes.
At least, that's my memory of it.
Bob
Phil Stein - 28 Mar 2006 00:42 GMT You may be right but I bet it wasn'tused to send 10+kg to LL-1 like the one Brad was discussing. I'm not familiar with the one you are talking about but I bet there are some people hare that are and they'd be happy to discuss it.

As an additional rocketry related question, what would folks recommend for the simplest/cheapest kit scale model rocket for a group of kids? Again, requirements are simplicity, cost, and an actual 'scale' model.

ThrustAero also has their very nice clones of the classic Estes "Honest John" (both the BT-50 and BT-55 version); the "Little John", "Aerobee 300", "WAC Corporal" and the BT-55 V-2. They also have a very nice BT-60 sized V-2 in their line of original kits.
I have all of the above, in various stages of construction, and am very pleased with each.

I - 27 Mar 2006 17:35 GMT Top posting is a courtesy to the intended reader(s) - it enables them to conveniently read the response without needing to scroll down. The only time bottom-posting is really required, is when multiple points are being addressed sequentially. With quoted text clearly indented, only the most dimwitted reader has difficulty discerning the responder's text from that which is being replied to. Thus, only the dimwitted have a problem with it.

Top posting is not the custom in Usenet groups. Others have already explained why. If you need more information, try this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Top-posting
Quote from above:
Unsurprisingly, different online communities differ on whether or not top-posting is objectionable; but if it is found objectionable in a particular community, top-posting in that community will generally be seen as major breach of etiquette and will provoke particularly vehement responses from self-named community regulars.
The sci.space groups have been around far longer than I have been reading Usenet (which dates back to 1988), so you'll find these groups are conservative and prefer the use of proper Netiquette:

The one that gets on my nerves is a reply that has no content from the posting it is a response to in it. This makes it very hard to determine what exactly the poster is talking about without backtracking the thread.

Context is important, but, at last with a news group on a news reader, you can backtrack it. What kills me is web forums where there is no thread structure, just sequential posts. I can't understand web tools like that not supporting threading <sigh>
Even Google, with all their hot programmers, has been challenged to recreate the thread structure of the usenet archives. The structure is built into the headers via pointers, right?

Steve & Leslie Swartz - 29 Mar 2006 19:28 GMT Pat:
Think about it- the only time bottom posting is "better" is when a newbie is entering a thread for the first time and needs to get "caught up."
So your point is that those who have been paying attention all along must scroll down past all the historical stuff they already know, every time a new post is added, in order to make life easier one time for the ocasional clueless newbie?
Ya know, we had this one out back in the early 80s and a common feeling back then was that top posting was like Apple- definitely superior in so many ways, but hey, everybody else is using IBM . . .
(OBTW- anyone using "Wikipedia" as an athouritative source on *anything* has really jumped the shark big time)

The current crop of morons don't have a clue. The main reason this group is heading in the dircetion that it is, is because of the arseholes like Min & Guth who started cross posting thier crap in rmr... and TOO many idiots in these other groups just keep replying - probably not even aware they're cross posting.
For example, notice the groups of a recent Min post:
