Field Boxes at Pratt Hobbies

Following our usual policy of doing the obvious thing about a year
after we really should have, I've added some very nice tool and field
boxes from Plano Molding to our web catalog at www.pratthobbies.com.
I've been using these for some time and they are excellent. The
smallest version of the marine box is the enclosure for my Surefire and
RTLS Baseblock systems, and I'm delighted with them. Their heavy tool
boxes help us shlep all sorts of hybrid stuff. So it finally occurs to
me, why not try to sell a few? Sigh.

This is probably a good place to say a public Thank You to Bob Kaplow,
who turned me on to Plano tackle boxes in the first place. Their new
tool boxes are better for rocket folks than the tackle boxes in my
opinion, because the compartments are larger and they're generally
sturdier. Bob is 100% correct that the folks at Plano are a joy to work
with. If something breaks, you call them and they send you another one,
no questions asked.

Thanks, Bob.

Well, how can I NOT respond to this. You're more than welcome.

The 4 drawer model you're selling is their 858, which is IDENTICAL except
for color to the fishing 758. The one I've been using for the past decade is
the 759/7592, which is almost identical, except the top section is a bit
deeper, and has slots for 5 of the 3500 series storage boxes. I've got one
of these with all my 18/24/29 RMS parts, another with competition chutes,
another with spare parts, etc. I'd recommend it over the 858/758 for
rocketeers like me who have "too much of everything". It also replaces 2 of
the drawers with large plastic storage boxes, that hold 29/38mm reload
casings, HPR chutes, and other goodies. The advantage of the boxes is that
you can buy extras, and take the ones you need: I have seperate ones for
sport launches and competition.

The tool box that I really liked for tools, that's sitting in my garage
workbench, they discontinued: the 873. It had really big drawers that would
be perfect for HPR fliers, but no dividers. There's nothing even close to it
in their catalog any more.

Their factory is in the far SW Chicago suburbs, so every now and then I stop
by their outlet store and pick up stuff for REAL cheap. I've never seen so
many tackle and tool boxes in one place. And as Doug says, they stand behind
their products. My 7592 is WAY overloaded heavy. At NARAM-44 I broke the
handle taking it into the motel from the car. When I got home I called them
up to see if I could buy a replacement handle. One arrived in the mail the
next day, no charge. For a box I bought in their outlet store!

I'll check out the 7592. The response to this has been very good, so
there's no reason not to stock a few more models. Thankee kindly for
the tip.

The big yellow box with the steel tube frame that I'm stocking has got
to be the strongest tool box out there that isn't bolted to a pickup
truck. We started using it for carrying around hybrid valves and tools
and stuff, and it's great. Also convenient to pick up for people like
me with lower back problems!

Doug,

I bought the box you have listed as the "Utimate Field Box" a year or so ago
from a local distributor and it's exactly as you describe. I would recommend
it to anyone looking for a new box and your price looks to be very good as
well.

Are you going to LDRS 25?

Thanks! Unfortunately, I can't make LDRS this year, much as I'd love
to. Next big trip for me is back home to Geneseo at the end of July.
