Has anyone out there tried a build that incorporates uni-body staging?
It's similar to CHAD staging except you build a booster pod to hold the
booster motor. Centauri played with it in the early 70's but never
release any production models just plans available in American
Rocketeer. One of those plans was the Uni-Bird found at

I built this rocket and will be launching it soon. I was just curious if
anyone else had tried it.

That is a neat design.  I had always imagined such a
concept in my mind (a finless booster stage) but
did not realize it had ever been "released" (officially
or unofficially).  If you build one, what will use to
reproduce the Centuri Nike Smoke nosecone?

I did build a version of the original. I found the original to have two
problems: stability, and the Krushnik effect. I altered it a bit
different nose cone(weighted). The Krushnik effect was my biggest fear.
In the current configuration
the second stage engine fits about a quarter of an inch into the
booster pod. After separation the engine is only about a quarter of an
inch from the rear. With the boattail and the large diameter of the
body tube I think I'm OK .
