Registration Is Now Open For LDRS 26!

It's official -- registration is now open for LDRS 26, the Tripoli
Rocketry Association's 26th annual national launch event, which runs
from July 12-17, 2007.

Certified commercial motor flying starts bright and early on the
morning of Thursday, July 12, 2007, and continues through Sunday night.
Tripoli members certified to Level 2 or higher may also register to
fly on the two Tripoli Research days, Monday and Tuesday, July 16 & 17,
2007.

Be sure to bring your night-flight rockets to LDRS 26, as we'll have
plenty of nighttime flying opportunities for you, including night
flights on Research motors on Monday night.  Friday night, we have
plans for a fantastic fireworks show that you won't want to miss
(followed by more nighttime flying, of course), and Saturday night is
the Tripoli annual banquet and meeting.  As is traditional, there will
be a number of exclusive raffle prizes given away only to banquet
attendees.

You'll want to register early for LDRS 26, as banquet tickets are
expected to sell out quickly, and early flyer registrations (before May
31) will also get a double-discounted price.  LDRS 26 discounted
pre-registration ends on June 30, 2007 -- we must have received your
paid registration by that date, or you will have to register on-site,
at full price.

Register online today with your credit card (or PayPal account) at:
http://www.ldrs26.org
(or, print out the registration form on the web site, and mail it in
with your check)

Per-flyer registration prices for LDRS 26 are as follows:

   Early pre-registration (by May 31)
--------------------------------------------
All Four Commercial Launch days:  $65
Both Tripoli Research Launch days:  $25
Banquet Tickets:  $35 (subject to availability)
    Commemorative T-Shirts pre-sale:  $20

      Pre-registration (by June 30)
--------------------------------------------
All Four Commercial Launch days:  $70
Both Tripoli Research Launch days:  $30
Banquet Tickets:  $35 (subject to availability)
    Commemorative T-Shirts pre-sale:  No pre-sales after May 31

             On-site Registration
--------------------------------------------
All Four Commercial Launch days:  $75
Both Tripoli Research Launch days:  $35
Banquet Tickets:  $35 (subject to availability)
Commemorative T-Shirts:  $20 (subject to availability)

LDRS 26 is being hosted by the Rocketry Organization of California, in
association with Tripoli Vegas, at Jean Dry Lake in Nevada.  As one of
the largest rocketry clubs in the world, ROC has plenty of experience
running world-class rocketry events, including twice-yearly ROCStock
launches that attract thousands of flyers and spectators every year.
Tripoli Vegas hosts the annual Springfest launches at Jean Dry Lake,
and their extensive local knowledge and experience has helped us to
guarantee that this LDRS will be a launch to remember.

Don't miss out!  Register today at http://www.ldrs26.org

What the heck are you serving for the banquet that costs $35 a head?
Caviar?

No wonder folks only show up for the meeting portion and skip the banquet.
Last year, we went to the Big Texan, spent a lot a less money, and got a
better meal.  We did show up for the meeting later.

Go price hotel meals sometime, then get back to us and let us know if
you can do it any cheaper.

The hotel requires you to use the catering company that they have a
contract with. That company has a captive audience, so charges a bit
extra. The hotel also wants their cut. So meals get a bit pricey.

You pay for convenience.

You didn't answer his question.  What are they serving?  You can't get
a price until the menu is set.

Sounds to me like you did alright.  The drink prices are good compared
to some places.  Maybe that'll be some consolation for Brian.

I'd like to see him get "bargain" prices from hotel catering for burgers
& fries.

Besides, this LDRS has the cheapest hotel prices I've seen since I've
been interested in attending.

We did get great room rates, but that's Vegas...  Get you in and take your
money at the tables...  Nobody told them we would be out on the lakebed all
day...

An organization I belong to had their annual computer conference in Vegas
twice. Both hotels requested they not come back. Everyone spent their time
in the computer exhibits and not in the casinos. And they were probably big
enough to totally book one of the hotels.

No big deal there are plenty of hotel in Vegas.

I bet most of them lost their a.ses the week of COMDEX - when it
existed.  The hooks probably did alright. ;-)

We stayed in a hotel in Amarillo for less than $50 a night on Saturday
night.  The Ritz was full and after seeing the place I was glad it was
full.

I wouldn't have said anything if the banquet was $25, but $35 is really
getting up there.  I couldn't find last year's banquet price, but I
thought it was $25?

Wasn't there a banquet in recent years that was $30 or less and included a
mandatory legal fund donation in the cost?

Brian,
The closest hotels to the launch are in Jean.  They do not have the
facilities to host a sit down dinner for more than 200 people.  That means
we have to travel for the banquet.  The closest hotel was at State Line,
Primm Valley, and was cheaper than going into Vegas.  We could serve hot
dogs on the lakebed for less, but I think it's nice to go sit down in an
air-conditioned hall, and be served dinner with a few hundred rocket
friends.  I am dissapointed at the price, but not much you can do without
driving 40 miles...The cost of dinner is more than $35 if you order the
steak, and less if you order the chicken, and we are hoping the two wash
out.  ROC might actual;ly lose money on the banquet, hopefully break even.
This is NOT a source of income for ROC!  Just charging what it costs.

Maybe you could add hot dogs to the menu - to make Brian happy.  I
think the go for about $7 each at sports arenas.  $25 for 2 hot dogs &
fries - drinks are extra.
