With planning well under way for NSL-2007 word about the NSL
commemorative kit, the Frick-n-Frack has been made available in
various forums I figured it was a good time to start a thread on it
here in the Vendors forum.
The Frick-n-Frack (FnF) is a unique approach to flying saucer model
rocket kits. It is a 2-stage saucer who's main feature is that it
looks like a single stage saucer on the pad. A six sided saucer, at
mid-flight, the sustainer motor lights and the upper stage, with 3 of
the 6 sides, continues on while the booster flips over and floats
harmlessly to the ground. The sustainer continues on to apogee and
flips over and floats back for another flight.
Flight prep is a breeze with no worries about a recovery device. The
many features of the Frick-n-Frack include:
- Laser cut fins and drag plates
- Tabs and slots to assure accurate alignment of parts
- Spacer tabs on the fins to assure proper placement on the body tubes
- Small field application (rare for a multi-stage)
- Near field recovery even with a C6/C6 combination!
- Perfectly safe recovery even if you have a failure on sustainer
ignition!
You don't have a field big enough for multi-staged rockets?
You do now!
You don't have eyes good enough to keep track of the sustainer?
You do now!
You're flying alone so you don't have enough people to track all the
parts?
You do now!
Watch as the Frick-n-Frack as it leaps off the pad and stages within
eye sight! Keep your eyes on the sustainer as it reaches staggering
heights of 100 feet or so! Be prepaired for the long trek to the edge
of the baseball infield to recover your model for another flight!
The Frick-n-Frack will be announced at NSL-2007. As the commemorative
kit of this exciting event, FlisKits will be donating 50 special
versions of this kit to be given away to lucky early registrants (so
register early!). These special kits will contain custom
commemorative stickers to help decorate your model and help to
remember NSL-2007 and the people responsible for bringing it to you!
The next set of pictures show the completed proto-type and gives you
an idea of the makeup of this exciting model, dressed up in
commemorative colors!
