anyone know what happened? It looked like they were really trying to
be on the ball and now it is closed.

Certain posters decided to tout Quest rockets and high power, and were
getting a bit obnoxious, and I think certain powers that be wanted to take a
step back and re-examine what the purpose of the forum was about.  Estes
designer RoguePink assures us that the forum will eventually return.
However, I'm afraid it will be heavily moderated to focus only on
customer-service issues.

That's really dumb.  Too bad.

Pluto downgraded?  Get lost, Pluto.  There's a new planet in town.

In case you missed it, Mary sent the following message related to the
birthday greetings thread in the Estes Forums.

Fred, just a quick note to thank you for remembering my birthday and for
your birthday wishes.  Please be so kind as to pass my thanks along to Bob
K, Roy G and Terry D.  I'm humbled that you folks would remember.  It has
always been such a pleasure working with such great folks.

Have a wonderful evening!

That's true but after thinking back I remember R.D. started a new thread
about 24 hours before they went dark and it was about a final top 10 list. I
got the distinct impression they were trying to narrow down things and would
soon be acting on those suggestions and because of that, I wondered how much
longer they would maintain the board. If it's purpose was solely to pick the
collective brains of flyers, seems they'd pretty much completed their task.
Several threads were repeating for a 2nd or 3rd time.

Since we don't have the posts here to evaluate, it's just speculation on my
part but I do think they were trying to finalize some things as far as what
to bring back in the near future and wrap up that phase of things. I think
it had more to do with having accomplished their original goal than sour
grapes over some rude postings about Quest or hpr. I may be wrong but I
think that's co-incidental.

I really have to give Estes credit for putting up the board in the first
place and I for one appreciate that they interacted with their customers.
That's totally cool! It took a lot of intestinal fortitude to do that and it
raised my opinion of the company quite a bit.

I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt and see what happens between
now and 2008. If they do what I believe they will I'm going to be purchasing
a lot of kits for Christmas.

That's entirely possible.  I thought that to myself when I saw that thread,
but he'd started so many other threads in that general way.  But as you
said, it did sound like a wrap-up.
