Hi all -

We're getting ready to start a new local model rocketry club.  I've
registered with the NAR.  I've downloaded a bunch of stuff from the NAR
site.  I've also gotten a couple of good books on the subject from Apogee
and the local bookstore.

We would like to emphasize the fun of the club but eventually work with the
math and science of it as well.  I plan on doing launches with small
electronic devices (such as accelerometers and altimeters, etc.) eventually
but we want to start small and work our way up.  I've done a fair bit of
launches in my youth (many years ago:) ) with the Estes rockets up to the
FarSide.

Does anyone have any helpful suggestions for a club just starting up?  Are
there any issues we should be concerned with?  Hopefully we will have Junior
High School and High School aged kids participating and a few adults for
supervision.

Thanks for any helpful suggestions.

The info on the NAR website is good and they should send you a section guide as well.

The biggest issue is usually obtaining a legal launch site and then keeping it (by not
doing anything that will annoy the neighbors).
What state are you in?

Many more people are on The Rocketry Forum and can offer good advice whenever you need it.

Thanks for the helpfule responses...

I'm in Idaho (Southeast part, in Idaho Falls).  We have a tentative area
lined up for the launches and I need to confirm it will be OK for use.

The NAR documents are very helpful and I will check the other suggested
sites.

Thanks again.
