Sir, if I was building a weapon of mass destruction,
you wouldn't be able to find it.
Well its not 1965. Astronauts don't matter unless they are dying at
"throttle up", or upon re-entry. Now if Paris Hilton were to go panty-
less and wear a short skirt at NARAM, and bend over a lot, THAT would
make news! Its a different country from what you once knew ... I feel
sorry for you actually. You have to live a lie every day, thinking
things are "ok". The ship isn't sinking, its the ocean getting
higher ...
Ask the common majority citizen who Jack Lousma is ... they don't know
and frankly don't care; I have his signatures from his Skylab mission
(bonus star for me for knowing and owning them!). Ask them who Buzz
Aldrin is ... same answer. Now ask them who Paris Hilton is and where
she is going in the next few days and 90% of the common majority
population will answer with an A+ responce ... well its a nostalgic
thought to believe that Astronauts are still heroes ... now if we
could only get Paris Hilton, Rosey O'donnel , or O.J. Simpson into
space we may have a formula to pique general population interests!

When Wally Schirra died a few weeks back, I scaned the news hoping to
see some major story ran ...NOT A SINGLE MENTION. Matter of fact,
most stations didn't even mention his death. But there was the
typical doses of Paris Hilton, the dead whore's Baby (Anna Nicole
Simpson), and the news on U.S. casualties in Iraq (more blacks have
died on the streets of America during the same time as the Iraq war,
due to crime and gang killings, but you would never know that from the
liberal news outlets).
Now I know, I HATE you LUNAR! YOu are without BALLS Lunar! You need
to stay off the pills LUNAR!! Yes yes bah bah bah bah back to you
sheeple, but my sourse for more blacks dying in America than the
nunber of U.S. Soldiers in Iraq come for the Center for Disease
Control. Just log into their web site and check the TRUTH ... wait
that would be too much effort on your part and interupt your sheeple
grazing ... its just so much easier to throw stones back at the
messenger ... and this is why you no longer feel safe on the streets.
This is why you can't function properly in the bedroom (strees impacts
the body and mind). This is why ... never mind, why bother with you
close minded fools. Just get back to being the good tax paying
sheeple that you REALLY are ...

The Daily Herald in the Chicago area had a small article on Wally Schirra
when he died.
Also, I'd like to point out that Bob wasn't asking the "general population",
he was asking a rocketry specific group of people who could be expected to
hold a somewhat different view of who might be an interesting person to meet
at a NAR event. I'll admit that if Paris Hilton shows up at NSL2007, I'll
probably gawk a little, but I'd much rather have a conversation with an
astronaut.
The problem with astronauts is getting to be that there are so many of them,
it is hard to know all of them. Also, John Q. Public probably doesn't find
the missions to ISS as exciting as a moon landing. Personally, I've met 3
astronauts, although I had to travel to Florida to do it, and I think you
underestimate the public - I'd be willing to bet that if an astronaut were
to come and speak at a local library, and the library were to publicize the
event, you would attract a full house.

Incorrect! I met Buzz at the last 2 TARC finials. Every time I tell
the story everyone knows who he is.

Scott Carpenter came out to a NIRA launch after RCHTA one year, does
that count?

I believe that Ron Sega http://www.af.mil/bios/bio.asp?bioID=7901 was at
TARC this year.

I was at the entrance to the goddard range waiting form more teams to
enter and setup for launch. A whole bunch of dignatiaries show up and
I get introduced to the sec of the airforce and shake his hand. (This
looked like him.)
Then I also am introduced to Dr. Buzz Aldrin and shook his hand
as well.

He doesn't do rmr or any rocketry forums anymore, but he still comes to
the occasional DARS meeting. And he still sends out funny stuff; I just
received an email from him with the subject "Tits or Udders". I can't
wait to see what's inside :)
