K Cornelius - 04 Jun 2007 23:48 GMT I enjoy TRF and hope it is repaired soon. I like reading actual posts about -rocketry- , and no, TRF isn't the only one.
I don't see many -rocketry- posts here anymore--just a bunch of whiners complaining about nothing that has to do with the promotion of rocketry.
To those, get out from behind your computer and launch a few rockets. Heck, you might just like it!
Or find another hobby to piss on.

Of course a lot of people think nothing of routinely looking at pornography, giving no thought to the effect it has on their mind.

The Internet was made for porn. It must be true - there's a song about it. ;-)

A routine use of vulgarity is as indicative of "low class" as is smoking cigarettes.
It is my understanding that the primary use of the Internet is accessing pornography sites. I suspect that most child molesters get a steady diet of pornography. Never let anyone convince you that a diet of pornography is harmless. IMHO, it is worse than the effect of many drugs.

I'll bet that if you look at some information on who smokes cigarettes, you'll see it's the poorly educated people.

Phil Stein - 05 Jun 2007 21:53 GMT There's a lesson for you in this. That is how some people think. I'm not saying this necessarily applies to Damien, but to some it elevates their status (at least in their mind) to judge some as less desirable because that person does not conform to a stereotype of how an "higher class" person should behave, look, speak, live, spell or whatever.

I know many very bright people that swear, smoke, drink and have tatoos, get over yourself. Self destructive behavior has very little to do with intelligence, in fact sometimes great intelligence causes self destructive behavior.

I brought up pornography just to get his opinion. There are so many people who think it is something harmless. I'm not on a crusade regarding this either, but I really do believe that a steady diet of pornography has an insidious effect on an individual's mind.

Well to me the negative factors are actually the standard over the air stations; ABC, NBC, etc. The *good* stuff you'll have to subscribe to. The most obvious would be the Rocket Challenge episodes on the Discovery Channel. Well, that any any sporting event :)
Also, keep in mind when it comes to tv, you have 100% control over what *you* would like to watch.

I don't think a steady diet of anything is such a great idea, but I don't think pornography is so much a cause as it is a symptom of people that clearly have other more serious problems.
In fact I see your comment about it being worse for women to be vulgar a much more frightening attitude than somebody that w.nks at his computer.
The harm of pornography is much deeper than people than use it or the people that are in it. It is a cultural problem rooted in archaic attitudes about gender and class, which you are propagating.

Well Pat, as I stated previously, I think it has a much more insidious nature than most people think. I just do not like the casual attitude about it that seems to be quite prevalent. The definition of pornography in the New College Edition of The American Heritage Dictionary is: Written, graphic, or other forms of communication intended to excite lascivious feelings.

And part of the reason I got to where I did is that I didn't judge people based on a childish standard, such as the length of their hair, if they smoke, or if they have a pierced nose!
"Class" has nothing to do with these type of things. Class can best be judged on the "honor" of the individual. Does Scooter Libby have "class" as he was a resource for the pres? I think not, as he's now got a 30 month term in the poky!
