(On Topic!) Aeropack Motor Retainers

Been fooling around with a Hawk-Mountain based 54MM 3"dia. rocket way too
long.  Time to get it built!  I'll hopefully be picking up a few pieces of
it from our on-site vendor next weekend.  What I am undecided about is the
motor retainer.

I'm really leaning towards getting another Aeropack.  I see that they now
offer a bolt-on version of the 54MM one.  I think those bolts look so cool!
Anyhow, one thing that really peeves me about Aeropack's website is the
total lack of detailed information.  It'd be nice to have a few drawings and
dimensions!

So my question is..... has anyone tried the 54MM bolt-on version with a 3"
Airframe?  If so, how'd it work out?  It says on the Aeropack site that it
works with a 3" Airframe.  There ain't much meat on centering rings of this
size so it just has me wondering!

Thanks,
Joe Michel

Joe,

I know this doesn't answer your question but..  Consider using it as a
75mm MD rocket.  Also, I've found that Alan Gorecki (the owner of Hawk
Mountain) is a great source of information relating to HM kits.

Thanks Phil,

I ruled out MD early on, because it was beyond the scope of what I wanted to
do with this ship.  It'll go fast & high enough for me on the 54MM motors.
As for HM, I am not building one of their kits, but rather scratching
something together with their tubes. (and what *nice* tubes they are!)  I
machined the G-10 fins, bulkheads and rings myself.  The altbay is complete,
but I have not begun building the booster yet.  I thought it'd smart to have
the motor retainer and recovery harness in-hand before I did that.

I'd still give Alan a call.  He probably knows.

Joe,

I checked http://www.aeropack.net/motor_retainers.html

and found "Minimum airframe ID's are as follows: RA54 = 3.000""

enjoy

I seen that on Aeropack's site before I posted.  I think I'll just order one
and see how it works out.
