Smaug Ichorfang - 04 Oct 2007 12:48 GMT Polecat Areospace, Tripoli San Diego, with help from Areotech and RMS Laser and Routing Services have built a 21 foot flying scale model of the X-Wing Fighter from Star Wars. Their intention is to fly it on the 6th (Saturday) at Plaster Blaster. For the article and build photos, see: http://www.polecataerospace.com/X-Wing.htm Really cool project guys! Good luck and hope it flys/recovers w/o problems!
J - 04 Oct 2007 13:04 GMT Call me a pessamist, but IMO, thats an accident waiting to happen.

I have to wonder about the thing where it takes 30 some seconds to open the wings. That makes the wings seem more like a visual effect than a functional part of the project but we'll see what happens.

Eekamouse - 08 Oct 2007 15:03 GMT > Told ya so (Where have I heard that before) Yeah, it took real guts to predict that a huge, complex and unconventional rocketry project *might* have a significant possibility of something going wrong...
It must be a great feeling to sit behind a keyboard and not try anything bold, risky or innovative yourself, and just take potshots at people who do.
Even in failure, those guys accomplished more than you will probably ever do.
Phil Stein - 08 Oct 2007 15:14 GMT >> Told ya so (Where have I heard that before) > [quoted text clipped - 5 lines] > >Even in failure, those guys accomplished more than you will probably ever do. J has done more than you think. As far as risky, bold & innovative go, risky and bold perhaps but innovative, I don't think so.
J - 08 Oct 2007 15:18 GMT Exactly
I'm sure those guys were dissapointed, but I bet they also got a good chuckle out if it as well.

As far as risky, bold & innovative > go, risky and bold perhaps but innovative, I don't think so. Phil Stein - 08 Oct 2007 16:26 GMT Absolutely. There's nothing like watching a big assed rocket that you've spent many hours building go soaring into the sky. Especially with the delay from the time it takes off until you hear the roar & then you feel the power. Hopefully, there aren't many times you get a feeling similar to the one you get when you see it all in pieces a second or two later. None the less both feelings are unique.
