Been noticing not just here but on many of the other usenet forums,
how the noise to signal ratio is much better.  Noticed too the
membership to this group is merely 428.  Probably some sort of
filtering going on...

Interesting storm *that* was...  :-)

Also noticed that the feature for the post to dissappear after 10 days
is gone...

Rocketry related - Weather's getting nice...  Probably time to build
and paint something...

no such thing as 'membership' on usenet. it's an open forum.

Retention policies are up to your local news administrator. Usenet is just a
delivery mechanism.

Been using google so much for usenet reading, figured they owned
usenet by now...

Well then at least google's been able to knock down alot of the noise
on this portal.

Nobody can "own" usenet.  It's distributed.

No, the jerk doing it declared victory and left.

If I'm not mistaken, after all the abuse complaints, he was made an
offer from a corporate legal eagle he could/dare not refuse.. Life is good..

You mean like "Sir, lose the spam or lose the Internet"? ;-)

At first there was just one planet. And then there were two...

Rocketry Planet (http://www.rocketryplanet.com) and now Our Planet
(http://our.rocketryplanet.com)!

I'd love to see a confirmation of that.

Below is a response from such an entity. I removed the actual name,
because I do not have their permission to pass on the email response --
not sure I need it, but the name of the source should be evident. It's
also probably not the confirmation you would like, but the best I can
provide. All I know; within two days of receiving the response, our
little moron bailed and has not been a problem sense. Is it a
coincidence; could be or maybe not. I know I wasn't the only individual
sending abuse responses, but I did send well over four dozen abuse
responses. Some of the responses were returned with a basic sorry about
that statement. To those responses, I reminded them of the fact, "it
would be better to attempt some form of corrective action now, than be
forced to respond to a potential class action legal proceeding". I'll
not debate the possibility of that happening as I'm no lawyer, but it
sure did result in a few interesting responses; one of them below.

Thank you for your note. xxxxxx does not regularly monitor or censor
postings sent to xxxxxx Groups, but we do try to prevent wide-scale spam

you sent to us is being collected and taken into account. We are using
the information you provide to make large-scale improvements in

You received a much lengthier response than I did.  I got only the first
couple of sentences, not the suggestion of "large-scale improvements".

<snip>

It was exactly the sort of response I'm happy to see.  But since my
recollection is that the jerk wasn't posting through xxxxxx, and
that's not my usenet feed, I suspect it's a happy coincidence.

However, the most common suspect did have a profile set up on xxxxxx with
one of his interests listed as (paraphrasing) "abusing usenet", and did so
on several forums. In addition, he falsely used the nyms of registered
xxxxxx users and commented (again, paraphrasing) on how xxxxxx was a joke to
work around. Maybe that gave them a little incentive.

Not a problem, I'll be sure and pass your email to abuse.. Now go away
little boy. Remember, it's mind over matter -- you don't matter and
collectively, I doubt anyone minds. Do you still need a reminder of
where you can get help? If so, Google is also your friend.

I guess I'll create another filter, as you can't seem to help yourself.
plonk..

Your friend,
