Just Rockets,Inc is please to announce that we have just finished all
negotiations with Matt Steele and have purchased the original North
Coast Rocketry in it's entirety. We do not anticipate the release of any
NCR kits until later in the year. Third or fourth quarter. There is a
lot of work to do with retooling etc. Don will be building the new North
Coast Rocketry website soon and it will be www.northcoastrocketry.com.

We anticipate that this will be a great move forward for Just
Rockets,Inc and will be welcomed by the rocketry community. If any of
you have any imput or what kit's you would like to see first Please just
let us know. You can leave all comments of course here, or at
ROCKETSJUST@AOL.COM or at wolfstar@wolfstardesigns.com. Thanks and stay
tuned

When did Estes cough up NCR?  I thought they bought the whole
operation in the 90's, and then let it die quietly after they decided
HPR wasn't for them.
David Erbas-White - 15 Jan 2008 20:03 GMT
Pure speculation, but I'm wondering whether there was some caveat in the
deal where Estes agreed to sell the products, but if they didn't do so
it reverted.  Just a guess...

Everything has been explained by Matt Steele on TRF. No need to guess.

Yeah, thats pretty much what TRF is: an early-1980s bulletin board.

"new since last visit" has got to be the lamest way to track what I've read.
'rn' was able to do a better job than that, in *1986*.

Yeah, C-Net 10.0 on a Commodore 64 did a pretty good job of that! At
least the way Rocketry Planet is configured, it will keep track of new
posts since your last visit plus any other new posts from previous
visits that you haven't read yet.

'rn' read new 8-)

Instead of a van by the river, TRF is more like an electronic version of
a shopping mall parking lot: a place to hang out but not very much to do.

I like to think of TRF more like an electronic shitbox.  The mods have yet
to learn to no sh.t where they sleep.

You know, you guys don't even need A. Paul Ing/Roy/Tristan/Mitch/
Habeeb to make this place a wretched hive of scum and villainy. You do
a pretty good job yourselves.

Give the TRF thing a rest already.

Who cares?

Not everybody goes to ROL or RP either.

C-Net and Image were great Commodore BBS programs back in the day.  I
was a beta tester for both of them. ;-)

Well, as long as we're going down memory lane, I was a user of the first BBS
on the planet, and knew the folks who put it all together, as a tool to
collect input for our club newsletter. The power users were the ones with
the 300 baud modems. Late 70s.

I'm curious - what was "the first BBS on the planet"?

300 baud?  Ha!  When I was getting started, the "power users" had to yell
out the bits to each other!

Back in the 70s I was a member of the Chicago Area Computer Hobbiest
Exchange (CACHE). The club had a monthly newsletter (CACHE memory, or CACHE
register, or something like that). Rather than getting submissions on 43
incompatible format 5.25" floppies, or 8" floppies, or cassette tape, they
set up a dial up computer system to allow members to download newsletter
articles for the editor. That became the Chicago Bulletin Board System, or
CBBS. It was built by Randy Seuss (hardware) and Ward Christensen
(software). In order to speed file transfers, Ward wrote Xmodem, which is
still around today.

I ran mine on a C-64 with a Lt. Kernal 20MB drive.  Along with a number
of the SFD-1001 and 1571 drives.  Did you go to Ken's house in Michigan
for the big get together in '88 or '89?  I was there with a friend from
the MKE area.  What a bunch of computer nerds we were. ;-)

My BBS was called Ye Olde Pawn Shoppe. See a pattern here? ;-)

In later years when I switched to PC's, I ran and was a beta tester for
RemoteAccess and FrontDoor.  I was the main dude for FidoNet in SE WI
for a number of years running Net 154.

My BBS started in early '84 on a 300 baud modem as well.

Packed away somewhere I still have my original C-64 (I had a bunch at
one time), my C-128 and my Amiga 500.  I sold off the Lt. Kernal a long
time ago while I could still recoup some of the money.

Ken ended up screwing me out of some money so we parted ways.  So no
visits to the uber-geeks house.  ;-)

I migrated to WWIV, was an AC for a while, ran a big mail router in my area.

I could never recoup my original investment, it was over 2 grand.  But I
had the claim, according to Fiscal, of being the largest storage
capacity C64 board for a number of years, at least until Xetec started
selling the drives and SCSI became the standard in them.

Interestingly enough, one of the original two developers of the Lt.
Kernal was Lloyd Sponenburg, an avid pyro and author of pyro books.  He
still lives about 2 hours south of me, and I got the entire Fiscal
Information tour in Daytona in 1985.

I really don;t understand your extreme hatred of TRF and your
continuing use of derogitory terms about retarded people. Why do you
hate people who are retarded and use that term to insult others? Do
you hate Jews and other groups as well?

I was not attempting to uproot people from here. I was simply pointing
out that the information was already on the Web and it came from Matt
Steele. I do not beleive in re-typing info if it is already online, I
simply ppint people to the source. If Matt's comments had been on your
website, I would have pointed them there.

Please try to not be so nasty to everyone. Your hatred is one reason,
but not the primary reason, most people have been scared away from
this USENET group.

Do they run retarded websites?  Then perhaps, but I doubt it.  Most
retarded people I have met have been far nicer than the people who run
TRF.  Perhaps we should just call it the a.shole forum.

Then what is the purpose of your posts?  You are repeating what someone
else said just by saying it was on TRF.  The whole point of discussion
is to ... discuss.

After thinking about this for a moment, I wanted to come back and call
bullshit to this comment.  RMR was dead long before I came back to
rocketry.

Just think, if interested parties wanted to resolve some of the hatred,
they would ask the moderators of that forum to live by their words and
not doublespeak.

But your comment that my hatred of TRF, which didn't start until this
past year, is one reason people have been scared away from RMR, well,
that is complete and utter bullshit, Fred.  Pure unadulterated bullshit.

I wonder if Fred gets to hawk his Suckajeweea coins on TRF.  Maybe he
ran out of them which would explain rmr's lack of usefulness to him.

Of course. That is why I pointed it oout here. There are millions of
items of information all over the Web. If some of that information is
of value to a covnersation, it makes sense to point folks to the
source rather than re-typing it and possibly distorting the
information. If the news was on the USA Today website, I would have
pointed folks there.

I was simply telling folks where the original message from Matt Steele
was posted.  Nothing more, nothing less.
