J - 28 Feb 2008 12:51 GMT Great, another "so called" motor expert. I wonder if it is the same production company as Mythbusters.

Interesting ... mythbusters, smash lab, and master blasters are shows that I DELIBERATELY avoid... I also avoid Irvine when possible.
Its not that Jerry doesn't know how to make motors; making motors is easy. Yes complicated chemical reactions, but once you know what to do and not to do, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to make solid rocket motors. Same with meth; very complicated chemical reactions have to happen, but once you know what to do, IDIOTS can even make the stuff...
The problem with Jerry Irvine is the hundreds of thousands of dollars he has stolen from other manufactures, public buyers, and distributors over the last 30+ years. Kosdon has a judgement for over $30,000.00 against Jerry (even though Kosdon lost over $100,000.00 via Irvine Inc.. The Feds are after $40,000.00 in criminal fines from Jerry. There is a distributor in Texas who Jerry stiffed for $12,000.00 back in the late 1980s. This stuff isn't made up folks. For those who know or want to know, just search the net, and you will find sites that post the court documents, and court judgment dates. The numbers I just typed are not made up, but true.
So he can be on Smash lab, America's most wanted, Cops, and the Files of the FBI all at the same time and be apropos in all 4 areas! I guess that is impressive ...

Now that is funny because it is TRUE! :)
Who ever the slime is who is spamming the group with the psychotic rants, is of the following:
1)Has a DEEP hatred for Darryl 2)Has a DEEP hatred for LEGITIMATE motor manufactures 3)Has a DEEP hatred for this newsgroup 4)Has a DEEP hatred for Fred Wallace 5)Has a DEEP love for Jerry Irvine 6)Has motor manufacturing knowledge 7)Is a very bitter individual
There are ONLY a handful of people in the country who fit this profile, and I don't think some hick named Roy in a rusty trailer down in GA is the one who best fits this profile, but then we are stupid and too dumb to put two and two together to figure out who the identity of the poster is because they use anonymous names that keep changing every couple of months...
I would not want to name who I believe the individual to be because they would threaten yet another law suit.

Dave Grayvis - 28 Feb 2008 17:33 GMT > Is that the Jerry Irvine from here on smash lab tonight (right now) > Wednesday night on Discovery? I probably shouldn't ask, but what was the "jist" of the episode?
DJ Delorie - 28 Feb 2008 17:48 GMT > I probably shouldn't ask, but what was the "jist" of the episode? The initial question was: can rocket motors be used to stop runaway vehicles?
The first small scale test, not all the motors ignited.
The second medium scale test, the motors ignited late.
The third large scale test, the motors ignited early. Almost torched one of the guys, too, except he was prepared for it.
The large scale test was two huge retro-rockets on the sides of a camper.
Their final conclusion was "No, you can't use rockets. WAY too dangerous and unreliable."
Dave Grayvis - 28 Feb 2008 18:01 GMT >> I probably shouldn't ask, but what was the "jist" of the episode? > [quoted text clipped - 13 lines] > Their final conclusion was "No, you can't use rockets. WAY too > dangerous and unreliable." And jerry was their "expert"? No wonder the tests failed.
Personally, I think jerry is "WAY too dangerous and unreliable."
DJ Delorie - 28 Feb 2008 18:57 GMT > And jerry was their "expert"? No wonder the tests failed. To be fair, the first test used 12 commercial motors, and one failed to ignite. I've done worse myself.
For the second test, the motors failed to ignite right away, and one finally lit after they aborted the test. I don't think the team expected the long delay before ignition.
The problem with the third was electronics - the radio they used to trip the igniters went off as soon as they enabled it. The motors themselves performed properly.
There were a LOT of "experts" in on the tests, not just Jerry.
Dave Grayvis - 28 Feb 2008 19:04 GMT >> And jerry was their "expert"? No wonder the tests failed. > [quoted text clipped - 10 lines] > > There were a LOT of "experts" in on the tests, not just Jerry. "Commercial motors"? That sounds fishy to Me.

Who REALLY owns US Rockets?! I have heard that Jerry sold USR ro some sucker, I mean investor in the mid-west. Then I heard Jerry moved to VA; another source said Europe (yet he is out at Lucern Dry Lake bed at times. I heard he is putting together another model rocket company under a different name...
Don't get me wrong, I don't give a rats' as about Jerry ... I just don't want to get caught in his web...

J - 28 Feb 2008 20:05 GMT Don't know the answer to your question. He lives on Rocketry Planet these days. AFAIK he is still the owner.
All comes down to the lowest bidder (or he was the only one who didn't tell the production company to go f&*$ themselves)

The TRUE EXPERTS are busy at Vandenburg preparing the next military launch.
The TRUE EXPERTS are busy at Wallops, or down in the Tropics preparing the next Sea Launch or ESA launch.

Build a rocket that can get people to invest in your company, then use the rocket to get out of town before FBI and State agents raid your Claremont California home.
The rocket must be able to carry one small man, and a life size statue (bronze) of Frank Kosdon, and be built of t-shirts, bond-o, and fake altitude waivers.
