Interesting. Estes did an Aurora-like kit a few years back. That had
lots of foam. I have one but I think lack of suitable glue prevented
me from making much progress with it. Be interested to see how yours
flies.

White glue, epoxy and foam safe CA are all suitable for foam. Good old
Elmers Glue works great.

White glue didn't stick it, admit I didn't try epoxy, admit I've not
come across foam safe CA.

Interesting that the white glue wouldn't stick. I just got finished
building a mostly foam airplane and it's all put together with white glue.
Your local hobby shop should have foam safe CA.

Perhaps it's not the same foam?

I'll check it out next time I'm there.

That kit would be the Estes SR-X. I bought and built one. Latex contact
cement worked perfectly with the foam airframe shell.

It was a beautiful morning, clear with very light south winds. First thing
we tried to send up was an Estes RTF model rebuilt with a 24mm enging
mount. We *tried* to send it up on an Aerotech F72. The darned thing blew
up like a handgrenade! This was using a copperhead (8") run up to near the
delay grain. The rocket didn't even make it off the pad - the lower
section w/fins was scattered and nothing of the engine could be found.
Fortunatly there was no fire.
Anyway - the Aurora flew like a champ on a B6-4. I'm almost blind, plus I
was almost directly under the rocket, but spectators said it did a slow
roll on the way up. Very nice flight. I didn't want to push my luck so
that was its only flight of the day.
The construction is Estes BT20 body tubes, a BT20 nosecone kit, and cheap
Dollar Store foam board. I was worried about the foam coming apart,
especially on the leading edges so I cut a 1/2" wide piece of typing paper,
creased it and stuck it to the leading edges of all of the fins with yellow
glue. The yellow glue didn't seem to want to stick to the foam, but after
the paper soaked and softened a bit, it followed the curves and stuck to
the paper on the outside of the foam. The paint was flat black, the
cheapest rattle can paint I could find at Ace. I tested it on a scrap
piece first to make sure it wasn't going to dissolve the foam core. Flat
black certainly is the proper paint for a stealth plane, it made it very
hard to photograph! Forgot the camera, but took some shots of it on the
pad with my cell phone. Will try to post them to the binaries news group.
Is anyone interested in plans for this?

Sure, can you post a copy to ABMR?

Yes. Give me a few days This was totally scratch built, w/o plans so I'll
have to see what the dimensions and angles are.
