"Double engine"?

Just one most probably not working idea: what if to fill core hole of
candy grain with fast endburning load of BP? BP would act this way as
igniter and would give initial lift.

It's very difficult to do, since you need to compact the BP to a
single grain that's well bonded with the APCP.  Otherwise, you get too
much BP grain exposed at once and terrible pressure spike.

Another idea, which many people have done with success and many others
have pointed out may raise pressures too high, is to paint the slot
with pyrogen.  That's *super* easy to ignite, and will get the whole
slot burning very, very quickly.
