Hi
As a grandfather that has not done modelling for about 30 years, having
grandsons thought it would be good time to restart.
I would welcome help/advise on best places to get kits, plans, Balsa and
other supplies, have done searches but find best sites seem to be
American.
Thought the new Spitfire Magazine/project would be fine until you see
the price 60 issues at almost 6pounds plus Engine etc.

Thanks in advance for any help offered

Ken

Find your local clubs and visit them, they are likely to give you some of the
help you need. Join your own country's model flying association, British Model
Flying Association for England (dont ask why "british"), Scottish Aeromodelling
Association, for Scotland. This will also give you Insurance.

Go to decent Paper/book shop get an aeromodelling mag, or two.

Given that that you are in UK best to buy in UK. Customs and Tax can put price
up.

Firstly Welcome back.

Totally agree with the last post, found this out the hard way.

One place I get balsa, and have seen some very fine kits is the Balsa Cabin,
http://www.zyworld.com/balsacabin/home.htm

Great service, and friendly people ready to help.

Not knowing your abilities, this may be ok if you were ok modelling, but
just out of touch with the market, I'm only in my 40's but can think of 2
shops no longer in business in my town.

Hope this is of some help.

Also on google try asking for UK only sites, I find this often helps.

All the best Vaughn

Welcome back Ken.  It's not a hobby, it's an addiction that we all come back
to eventually ;-)

Good advice from Bob and Vaughn already.  The BMFA website is worth a good
look - it has links to many other UK sites as well as a club directory and
general information.  One big change you'll notice is that more and more
models are now available "ARTF" - Almost Ready To Fly.  Also, electric
models would have been virtually unheard of 30 years ago.  Have fun
searching, and come back and ask any more questions.

What  friendly replies. (Unlike some groups).

Makes the web all worthwhile
