Removing old solarfilm

Hi,

I am in the process of recovering an old 100S glider. However, I am
struggling to get the old solarfilm off. Sometimes it peels clean, sometimes
it sticks and more often just leaves the base colour behind. I don't want to
use sandpaper too much as it's a veneer foam wing.

Any suggestions please?

Hi Martyn,

Try turning your iron up as far as it will go, this will cause the solarfilm
to bubble up and make a right mess but at lease it comes off then.

What do you intend putting back on? Note: Solarfilm is not the right answer
lol.

I am a big fan of Profilm, a lot more expensive, but easier to use, doesn't
take the colour off if you accidently stick it to itself and comes of
airframes easily without leaving half of it behind.

I agree with John.  Also I find it impossible to burn a hole in Profilm with
a heat gun, whereas it's easy to do so if I get a bit hamfisted when
applying Solarfilm.  Profilm doesn't seem to slacken in the hot sun.  Though
I've never actually tried it, allegedly you can paint over Profilm.
