I just got a new 8ah Ni-Cad F cell to repair my golf trolley battery, I
think they are made by Yuasa.

I trickle charged c/10 it for 20 hrs as normal as you do, then
discharged it with the Supernova and it only put out 4ah, discharging at
1,5A the cell voltage was right down at .9v right the way through the
discharge, Then charging it at 2ah it peaked at 1.95v after 3ah.

I recon this cell is faulty or very weak? or could it be the supernova
is no good at charging a single cell? any ideas folks?

Just charge it on your Supanova at C/10 (0.8A) on the lead acid cell
settings make sure you set the cell voltage as well (going to be either 2v,
6v or 12v) and see what it accepts and then discharge it to see what comes
out at 1 to 1.5A.

You didn't try to charge the cell on the automatic setting did you?

As far as I know most gell cells won't take a fast charge rate, Yuasa's (if
that is the cell that you have) sealed cells will accept a charge rate up to
0.25C (which is probably where your 2A came from). If it was me I'd charge
at a slower rate 1-1.5A until it's cycled a few times.

charge a NiCd on lead acid settings I dont think so Chris? not sure if the
Super nova will charge a 8Ah cell, have you  tried to charge it again after
it has cut out the first time it might have timed out rather than Delta
peaked
does the trolley run on 1 cell or are you replacing just 1 out of a pack?

It's a 13 cell pack, all 8ah Ni-Cad F cells. One of the original cells
has shorted to I removed it and soldered in a wire for the time being,
so it's now a 12 cell pack. The supernova charges this pack up no
problems, it dumps in 5amps right up to 9.5ah and discharges to 8.5ah as
it should.  http://www.powerstoredirect.co.uk/ is where I got the spare
cell from.

Even if I set the supernova to manually charge at 5a it wont go any
higher than 2a, maybe these cells are just rubbish quality?

sounds like it, try to cycle a few times and if you dont get the rated
capacity send it back
