I have just fitted three 4231 servos to  largeish aerobatic model, the
servos came from  chopper.

Two of the servos chatter a lot round full deflectiuon one way and one of
them returns to a few degrees off centre then chatters it's way back to
centre over about a second.

Clearly the servos are unservicable as they are, but before I chuck 'em out
into the spares bin, does anyone know whether this model of servo is
repairable, likely to benefit from a clean, or whether they truly are
scrappers?

I've had similar problems with old Futaba servos. Cleaning the track in the
feedback pot with a cotton bud dipped in Meths cured the fault.

I did this on the grounds that there was nothing to lose if it didn't work.

Alternatively you could use the one which is a bit sluggish around the
centre for a throttle servo where it wouldn't be likely to cause a real
problem.
