hi
been flying an electric zagi for nearly a year now and iv'e got a sky
cat(the multiplex one) ready for flying.
question is , is going to a plane with all surfaces controlled going to be
greatly different to fly than the zagi, if so,what do i have to watch out
for?
i hope to hand launch because the fields a bit rough, similarly, i'm
thinking of taking the undercarriage off so i can land in the long grass.
another thing ,the zagi seems a bit short of power recently and the motor
speed varies slighly, is this a sign of impending motor failure? how long do
they last?
TIA.

I can give you some Sky Cat answers based on my experiences with one. Taking
the undercarriage off is a very good idea. With a descent setup (which is?)
it can be easily thrown up. Landing on rough grass is fine. You might find
it easier to fly than a Zagi as it may be slightly slower and easier to
orientate.
It really needs 10 cells to flywell on the standard motor and at this
voltage the motor lasts for about 10 flights before dropping power. I have
tried a few setups including brushless, and I believe that a descent brushed
600 motor (not the one that comes with it) and gearbox is perfect. You will
have to keep the speed up if you use 10 sub Cs, but it's not quite as bad as
has been reported.
I don't think that you will have a problem with the controls as it is happy
without the rudder.
In my experience, variations in motor speed during flight is caused by poor
motor suppression. The power drops right off when the motor is done for.

thanks for advice clive, next decent day the "cat" is going up,i'll see how
it goes with the standard motor and 8 cells for a start.
put a new motor in the zagi today and all is well again, except one of the
new suppressors i got blew up (suprising how big a bang considering their
size) but all is well now ,must have been gradually going off for a while.

well, chucked the cat up today, came straight down and lost its u/c,second
attempt, moved the battery back a bit, nose in and bent prop shaft,
how hard do you have to chuck these things?
mind you there was no wind, suppose might be better with a bit but i wanted
to try it on its first outing in calm
