Storing engines

im told that if you bung em in a jar with good ole diesel fuel
(nicked out ya mates van),that they are protected for donkeys.

any truth in this?....is it better than after run oil?

Don't know about that, but I find a squirt of model ether based model engine
fuel very good at freeing up engines which haven't been run for years -
apply via venturi, plug hole (if glow) exhaust ports if accessible and leave
for an hour or two then add a few drops more and the engine will turn over
very easily. I can't guarantee that there will be no damage e.g. flats on
ball bearings, but any engine I've treated this way has always run be it a
diesel or a glow engine.

A guy I knew in a club I belonged to used to tie a string onto his
engines and drop them into a tub of Derv for storage, he'd been doing
it for years with no ill effects.  Sounds perfectly reasonable
regardless, derv is oil.

Yep, I would have thought so, Paraffin is just a lighter grade of fuel
oil than Derv, it all sounds perfectly reasonable to me too.
