Seen it mentioned elsewhere that Aldi have a couple of specials
on sale this thursday... there is more info and pictures at Aldis
website.

A digital caliper, complete with wooden carry case  £8-99'ish

A table saw (about 2" depth of cut) for £29-99'ish

I am going to check out the saw as it could be O.K for stripping
balsa. There would be more waste with one of these as compared to my
scroll saw... the scroll saw only has about 16" throat depth though
so strips have to be turned end to end and then a couple of inches need
to be cut through with a knife and rule... thats if I want 36" lengths
of stripped wood.

Got to be worth a look at these prices.

Well I went and returned with...

The table saw... nice piece of kit for the price and seems better
quality than the usual B&Q cheap offers. With this saw, my scroll
saw and a hand held stripper device (forgot the manufacturer and aint
going all the way to the shed to look) I have a variety of methods for
cutting wood and stripping balsa    >:-)

I couldn't resist the 49 piece drill set either with HSS drills from
1mm to 10mm in 0.5mm increments, plus other drills.... a whopping £6-99
These also seem to be pretty decent quality.

First time I have ever bought anything from Aldi.. gonna keep an eye
on the `thursday' specials they advertise on the web site   >;-)

My son passes there on the way to work and reckons there is often a
load of bods waiting for the store to open when they have the special
offers on.

Try also Lidl and Netto.

I have a look at their offers every week "on line" and have had some amazing
bargains.

Lidl has both Monday and Thursday offers - can't remember whether the other
two do the same.

Been keeping an eye on Lidl since they had that super binocular offer a
while back. Bought 2 luggage straps in Tesco £4-99 each. One was lost
when we went on holiday... case came down carousel.. no strap.
Bought 2 luggage straps in Lidl £1-99 each and far better quality and
design.
The cheap stuff I have bought uptodate has been good quality.
