Hi,

does any one have the full tech.spec-sheet for futaba 3003 std.servo

I can only find info about fork and speed. ( looked at futaba and tower)
i would like to know how big an operational range the 3003's have.

I have just mounted one as a retract servo and when forcing the servo by
hand, it can operate the gear lock-to-lock
but when i use the transmitter ( fc 18 v3 plus ) i cannot get the full 180
deg.  it only moves approx. 140 deg. (both afr and atv are at maxed out at
110 %).

will the 3003 operate at a full 180 deg. ??
if not what will ?

In case you where wondering , a FORK, is the danish (idiot) way of
translating the word TORK, and not at all a typo. just so you know. ;-)

I suppose to anyone who speaks English, that would be "torque".
i.e. Ft/lb or N/m turning force
Dave :^)
or perhaps "forque"?

I think you're going to need a proper retract servo like the S136.  They're
about £35 though.

Quote from futaba-rc.com......

A retract servo is specifically used for mechanical retracts. It is a
non-proportional servo which only moves 180 degrees. That is to say this
servo is either "off" (gear up and fully locked) or "on" (gear down and
fully locked). No ATV, EPA, or AST adjustments can be made on these servos
because they are not proportional. The linkage must be set up properly to
allow this servo to operate at its full range and do its job-securing your
model's landing gear in a gear-up or gear-down position.

.... End of quote

I did see some time ago a website that showed you how to "convert" a 148 to
act as a retract servo.  I'm sure google would help you find it.

I have previously conveted a Hitec retract servo to be proportional if
that helps...

In the course of fixing the mechanical retracts on my Tucano, I had to
replace the standard Futaba 3003 servo which was underpowered and had
seen better days with a retract servo to provide enough torque. I
ordered a Hitec jobby, but didn't realise that it was not a
proportional position servo, it would only go from one stop to the
other thru 180 degrees, which was more than I needed - argh!

The Hitec servo has what looks like a small potentiometer that you also
find in the Futaba servo, but in the case of the Hitec, it is actually
a two-position switch. Swapping it directly with the Futaba pot, didn't
work which suggested that the Hitec circuitry was only expecting a
switch. The cases for the switch and pot were the same except the shaft
on the Futaba is slightly longer, so by prising open the small metal
tabs on the back of the switch and pot I was able to swap over their
small circuit boards.

Refitting it all along with the Futaba control circuit, which wouldn't
fit in the Hitec servo case but was secured underneath, resulted in a
perfectly functioning retract servo which I could control
proportionally!

Regarding the amount of movement, whilst setting up the throttle servos
on the wifes new trainer a few weeks back, I noticed that with her
transmitter, an old skysport 6 with no atv, it was not getting as much
movement as my FF9 at 'standard' settings. I dug out an older Futaba
transmitter and that gave more throttle servo movement than the
Skysport6, but still not the same as the FF9 - go figure that one out!

Cheers

If you have a buddy that has one of the Futaba computer radios such as the
8U or 9C, test the servo on either of them with max travel set to +/- 140%.
All that said, I'm not sure a 3003 has sufficient fork for mechanical
retracts???

I was looking at the servo signal with a oscilliscope, I am not getting the
full pulse.   hmmm.

oh and the 3003 has sufficiant forque to operate the retracts.   movement
and lock.  I am pretty confident that it could work ,, (if I had the 180
deg.´operation, that is )

hmm I think I need  invest in a retract servo.  :-/

"Eurika"  and/or hurra jubii and so on

I managed to modify the servo (3003) to go 180, just by installing
risistors.

I will take some pics.  and write a little song about it. and schematics.

does anyone have a webpage,  I want the world to know.

Martin.
