Hi guys

I am new to this newsgroup.

I have been flying radio controlled aircraft on & off for a few of years.

All the aircraft that i have flown have been covered with iron on film
solatex e.t.c

My question is i recently accuired a spitfire that had been used for slope
soaring & was painted with humbrol enamel paints.

I am going to convert her I.C.E  with  5% nitrol.

I know that i need to fuel proof the plane `a boreing task` but is it
possible to use a spray can of  varnish e.t.c  ?

Hi, Well from the off you will be happy to know that the Humbrol finish will
be fuel proof at the 5 % Nitro you plan to use so your main concern is
weather the engine bay and possibly Tank aea is going to resist any fuel
ingress.

Any polyurethane/enamel based finish will be up to the job.

Do not use any Spirit/Cellulose type finish on the existing enamel finish or
you will end up with a crazed finish that would better suit an 'old
painting'. My old favourite is Flair Spectrum Satin Clear for scale type
finishes. If you can get it this is basicaly an enamel based clear top coat
that is designed to resist fuel up to moderate Nitro content and gives you a
nice finish to that warbird.

Good luck
