Greg - 19 Aug 2006 13:35 GMT Can anyone confirm which day the swap meet is on please and when it opens?, I thought it was Saturday morning at 10 but am seeing statements that it's on Sunday at some unspecified time. Greg
olddog - 19 Aug 2006 18:34 GMT My experience of the Nationals swap meet, especially if your'e selling, is; dont bother ! It is usually open at 10.00 Sunday morning. The hanger isn't big enough to cope with all those who want to sell, so they put a lot of sellers outside on the grass, Fun if it's raining. Whatever time you get to the hanger to queue up, thinking you will get a good spot, I was there at 08.00, for a 10.00 opening, there WILL be someone in front of you. When they open the doors for the public, ALL or MOST of the prime table spots will already be occupied, & they let all the buyers & sellers in at the same time, so there is total mayhem with people setting up tables, from their car boots, & people trying to buy stuff all at the same time. The goods on sale, is usually high priced JUNK. Thats because all the 'deals' have been done the night before, elsewhere. I tried it twice for myself, & a 3rd time with a partner, It was mayhem & junk all 3 times. I now just go to browse around the junk & have a laugh at the prices.

It is usually open at 10.00 Sunday morning. So they haven't got their act together, I was there as a buyer a couple of years ago and it was indeed a shambles, the crush when they opened the doors to many hundreds of buyers was potentially life threatening and then they mixed cars with people, completely idiotic. The BMFA is for ever telling us they have improved safety at the Nats so I hoped things had improved, a real shame. Wings and wheels is far, far better organised but I couldn't get away that weekend, and it's a long haul from File.
Still, I may try and do a day at the nats before moving to the land rover show at Malvern.

olddog - 21 Aug 2006 10:00 GMT Yeah thats right, a complete & utter shambles! I will not even attempt to sell there again, & likewise, several of my friends have said the same. Ray

Thanks to those chaps There were a few other items that caught my eye but funds ran dry. If you want to get something for nothing then stay away, In amongst the S*** ther are some real deals but one shold not expect a givaway price for good items.
fred - 29 Aug 2006 08:40 GMT I'm glad you got something you liked, but i bet you got there early. It was a zoo as usual, some very unrealistic expensive prices for utter crap. If that stuff was mine, i would have taken in down the tip. Made me appreciate what I've got at home :-)

I got there half an hour before the buyers were supposed to be let in, only to be told that both buyers and sellers were let in simultaneously about an hour earlier!, the Nats would be so much better organised if only the marshals could learn to tell the time... oh and what's with having the cars queing outside the base right down the road in both directions when they have a whole airfield to use for the queues?.

I got one of the biggest AXI's for half price, now I'm wondering what to do with it!, if I can't think of anything it might end up on EBay and I'm sure I'll make a profit on it. I also got one of those airborne camera/transmitter gadgets so might get some terrifying video from a Picojet hurtling around 8-)

sagoratoz - 21 Aug 2008 05:32 GMT A flea market or swap meet is a place where vendors come to sell or trade their goods. The goods are usually inexpensive and range in quality depending on several factors, which might include urban or rural location, part of the country, or popularity or size of the flea market. In the United Kingdom, the car boot sale is a common variant of the flea market. OurSwaps allows its users to get the best out of their swap. With additional localization control and favourite items and users, you can keep track of what is most suitable to you.
