RMX 40 2 stroke engines.

I am rapidly becoming our club's deadstick champion!
Aborted takeoffs, 6 ft in the air, a speciality.
We have a most unforgiving hedge to get over when the wind is from the NW!.

My new RMX 40  ( fitted upright) powers my World Models Superstunt 40
consuming a Model Technics 18% lub 5% Nitro fuel  & using a 10x6 Master
prop.

With supervision from club experts I have tried every variation  of needle
setting.
Have  installed a taller Tank higher in the nose, redone the clunk and
fitted an inspection hatch (Major surgery!)
All ground checks ( both H&V) up to max revs seem OK, there is just
something in the air causes it to cut out.!
Only now after consuming a full gallon of fuel am I able to complete a 15/20
minute flight, but only if I run rich & dont get too enthusiastic  with the
throttle.
I can only assume that  at operating temperatures she is still tightening up
and stalling, but I can see no seizing symptoms after landing. I actually
landed, for the first time last week , still ticking over, so perhaps things
are at last easing up?

If this is an engine weakness I would  be reassured, but perhaps I just have
a 'Friday afternoon' motor!

Any comments welcome.

Well, as the RMX engine is just a rebadged MDS, it's not really surprising
is it?

If you get a good one it will be very good, but most will be like yours.

I agree with madasafish...if you insist on flying nondescript engines then
you'll carry on learning why the rest of us dont!

Really, there is no reason for an engine induced dead cut these days.  Do
youself a favour, go and buy something like an OS, Irvine, J'en56, or an SC,
...but y0ou'll stop having deadsticks!

Absolutely agree that the known reliable  engines are the way to go.
I've argued since about 1980 that OS is number one and Enya number two
as reliable brands. Whilst for some time they were the most expensive
engines, their longevity made them them the best buy dollar for dollar
by a country mile.
As a matter of fact I've purchased (two months ago) an OS Max-46AX for
A$149 which is a steal at this price. Four of our Club members are
using them. The engineering and finish is supurb. Now fully run in,
mine idles a treat (almost hear each stroke!) and is quite economical
on fuel used. With a power output of 1.65ps / 16,000 RPM I'm getting
bang for Dollar value too. My best buy for years and highly
reccomended.

Have they fixed the rich burble when throttling up do you know ?

Thanks for the advice guys.

I like the sound of a rich burble. ( as long as it is <70db of course)

Looks like I shall have to dig slightly deeper.

Better to sacrifice the RMX than lose the plane.

A few novices in my club have Thunder tiger 42 (plain bearing) in their
trainers, seem to perform well, easy starting and very reliable. Cheaper
than the OS40LA at around £39 at Steve Webb models, maybe cheaper elsewhere
Just Engines always have reliable engines, friend of mine has the Leo .37 at
around £38. Very impressive
