A friend of mine bought a completed but unflown Cambrian Grumman Panther
from a Bring and Buy. He sensibly asked Cambrian for the Cof G position. I
think their reply demonstrates why we don't buy British kits anymore.

Dear
Many thanks for your interest in Cambrian Models.  I wonder why you think
they are no longer in production?  The plan and build guide is available for
£28.50 which should answer any questions you may have now or future.  All
other spare parts are also available - price list supplied with build guide.
I hope this is exactly what you require and look forward to your further
instructions.
Best Regards
Cambrian Model Company.

£28.50 to find out the Cof G - this is taking the p**s

Yes that is indeed taking the p**s and is a sad reflection on a company that
produced some very nice kits.  I loved their Grumman Traveller kit which
flew superbly ... some old photos of my plane here ...

That's a really nice finish on the Traveller - what did you use?

It's many years ago now, but if memory serves me correctly, I covered the
whole plane in a very light weight tissue to seal it, working it really wet
so that it tightened and shrunk down to a tight smooth covering.  Then,
would you believe, I used aerosol car paint to colour it, added the black
and white decals that were included in the kit, and finished it off with a
liberal coating of gloss Tufcote fuel proofer.  It obviously ended up a bit
heavier than normal, but it flew like an angel.  It was one of my longest
surviving models and flew for many years without incident with an OS 40 FSR
up front.  It finally got "shot down" by a prat who turned on his
transmitter in the car park without checking grrrr!

At least you got a reply! I'm after a replacement cowl for their F86,
could you post the email address you used for them, last time I looked
I couldn't find them.

Cheers

Strange!  Purely out of curiosity I tried to find the Cambrian site.  All I
found was www.cambriandirect.com and their product range is now just the
fun-fighters, a couple of sport-scale (a bit larger) fighters and one
glider.  No important address, just e-mail and phone contact details.  Of
course, I don't know how valid that web page is as it's undated - companies
change hands and web links point to old out of date and unmaintained pages
etc.  This one seems to be in Warwickshire but whether it's still up and
running, who knows?!  BTW, my search skills aren't special (Google, search
for "Cambrian" and receive a list of everyone in Wales!!) so it's probably
no help at all.

Thanks guys, last time I looked that website was down. Now it's back up
I've emailed them again, see if I get a response this time.

In fairness it sounds like the kind of answer you'd get from "Sharon in the
office" whos job it is "not to disturb the men".

Still a crap response though!
