I'm looking for a little solid-state video camera which I can mount on
an RC plane.  I think my wife's cheating on me and I want to spy on
her (Hehe I'm only joking about that part).  But I heard it's possible
to get a relatively cheap solid state video camera. i.e one that
stores the video on an internal memory stick and not on video tape.
Then you simply upload the video into a PC via a USB port.

Problem is I have no idea where to find such a device.. if it exists
in the first place.  Any advice most welcome.

You mean, like, a digital video camera.

Yes, but a cheap one which doesn't use tape.  Records onto its own
memory stick.  Still looking.

Doi you want video to go to a TV or on a PC?
How long do you want to record for?
So you need sound?

Tv will cost more as it needs higher resolution.  to a PC much less,
but it will be a lower resolutin

Yes its for a PC.. Sound would be handy although not essential and I
guess about 10 mins recording time would be enough.

try looking for a nisis (or Nysis) dv camcorder, there not that great
quality but then you can get one for less than £30, so if you total
the plane with it in it's no great loss

I use the VERBATIM 5in1 . It is a discontinued product by Verbatim, but if
you search over the net you can still find one.
It records 3 to 6 minutes only (128Mb) but it has a battery inside and can
shoot photos or rec videos on air and download them right after flight on
your pc through USB port.
The price is high, but it is the smallest and easiest.

Look on eBay in  >Photography >Camcorders

Then narrow the search with 'dv' without the quotes.

They are around 3.1 Megapixel interpolated, so the quality will not be
wonderful, have a fixed focus lens and auto exposure that fails miserably
in bright light high contrast situations (model against a sky). They also
have a digital zoom, do not be tempted to use it, the resolution is so low
and the compression so high, the results don't bear description. They
weigh around 100 grams so pretty easy to mount in a plane, with a 512 MB
SM/MM card you will get around 2 hours of recording. They also have a
Li-Ion mobile phone battery for power that lasts for ever. For all their
faults it is possible to get reasonable results, and for around £35, good
fun to play with.

Hope that helps

Just put your phone on the plane - Nokia 6131, with 256MBytes RAM can record
reasonable (quite good, actually) video for over 1/2 an hour in one go. At
least, mine can, and I have also got a few 100 MP3 files on the chip as well
:-)
