Back in November I asked, in this NG, what the ideal electric heli
would be if money were no object.
Well, I have bought it (sod it, Summer is on the way so double glazing
can wait till next year and if she buys a new carpet, I am probably
only going to spill glue and drip molten solder on it, so that had
better wait as well) - actually, I still remember the time she bought
a new armchair; a couple of days later I applied cyano to the wings of
a new plane and stupidly rested them across the arms of the new chair
for a couple of minutes - Yep, glued firmly to the chair; you can
guess the reaction from the wife. 8^)
Anyway, back to my new toy. I have bought:-
1 T-Rex 450S
3 Hitec HS55 servos
1 Futaba S9650 Servo
1 Futaba GY-401 Giro
Align 430L & 35a ESC
1 2100mah 3S1P battery
And I thought to myself, I am in deep sh#t with the wife now anyway so
I may as well buy a Futaba Field Force 7 R/C set to replace my ancient
JR X-388S set.
However, whilst the T-Rex is going together well (actually it arrived
mostly assembled but I am a slow builder), I have come across a small
problem I need help with.
Assembled as per the instructions, there is a gap between the flybar
control arm and the flybar seesaw holder. This means that the flybar
rod has about 1/8 inch sideways play, which seems a trifle odd to me.
I would have expected there to be either no play - or spacers between
the control arm and the seesaw holder to take up the slack, but
nothing is shown on the plan, nor are there any bits in the box that
look as though they fit here.
Is the flybar rod supposed to "free float" sideway, or am I missing
something obvious? Any help would be appreciated.

There certainly should not be that much play in the flybar.

Hi
Having done a trial fit - minus ball links - I then found to my horror
the fit was so good that the flybar control wouldn't come apart again.
So having accidentally snapped it in half and bought a new "flybar
control set" the problem was still there, which at least proved the
original part wasn't faulty (probably - it could have been a bad batch
of mouldings).
I then posed the same question in <rec.models.rc.air> and was directed
to <helifreak.com>. Searching the forums revealed that it was a
common problem, didn't seem to matter much if you ignoed it, but the
best solution was to just pinch in the arms a tad to take up the slack
- which I had already discovered for myself anyway.

Mine has slack too (about 1mm) - thought this was bad but as far as I could
see the components were fitting as best they could so flew with the slack -
doesn't seem to be a problem.
Do you really mean 1/8 inch (3mm) - if so that is huge and doesn't sound
right to me.

Hi Nigel
Yes - 1/16 inch per side. By squeezing the arms before tightening the
grub screw I have managed to reduce this to a TOTAL of 1/16th inch:
i.e 1/32 per side: not a perfect solution but better than it was.
