Well, considering that this isn't supposed to be a binaries newsgroup, I can see a lovely picture of a 9F in the above thread titled "FS: British Railway Decapod". What's going on, why does this happen and is it something I should worry about? I don't have the thread at all. I've got a limit on the size of news articles I will accept, which automatically rejects most binaries. After all, the maximum size for a text message is somewhere around 5K, and binaries can be significantly bigger than that. >What's going on, why does this happen and is it something I should worry >about? It happens because people post binaries. The ban on binaries is in the charter, but there is nothing to enforce the charter except for the way you configure your newsreader, or some ISPs who can get very shirty with their customers if someone complains. No, you shouldn't worry about it unless you're on a slow dial-up line and paying a fortune for your net access. If you're on broadband you should be OK. >Thanks, > >db. Bit like posting in html really. If you want to show a pic ... upload it to some webspace then post a short descriptive *text* post to the relevant newsgroup with a link to the uploaded pic(s). Assuming Philip Meech was the original culprit - no, you're not allowed to post binaries, but you are allowed to advertise items for private sale. Barr's used to claim Irn-Bru was made from girrderrs, but I guess they can't any more under the Trade Descriptions Act 1968. Nor can Guinness claim to be good for you (even if it is).
