Don't expect online ordering!

What a stupid idea for a retailers website! You even have to email and
ask for PDF catalogues, FFS.

It isn't a retailer's website, it's a blog.  Yes, I think it's a bit
daft having to ask for the PDFs, but at least you can get them, and he
answers emails promptly.  The only (official) way prior to this blog was
to write and ask for them enclosing payment.  In fact, the PDFs have
been available for some time, but he's only recently made that fact public.

How many other one-man model railway suppliers are there that have
absolutely no web presence, or ignore emails sent to their publicised
email address?  Quite a few - and not just one-man bands either.

Both Comet and Mainly Trains are good suppliers though, and if on-line
ordering is that important to you then by all means use them.  I haven't
used Comet for ages, but certainly the service you get from Dave Cleal
is as good as from Andrew Mullins.

FFS, Branchlines a one man band who supplies model railway bits.
Not a full time website developer.

Andy Mullins answers email and phone calls promptly, despatches goods
quickly. If you can't put up with that, go shop elsewhere.

I guess tool and material suppliers such as Squires, or publishers like Wild
Swan are completely unnacceptable to you as well.

- Nigel  (occaisional purchaser of stuff from Branchlines, Squires and Wild
Swan).

And so are plenty of other people who do manage to put together
acceptable websites. If he can find the time to set up and maintain a
blog then he ought to be able to put together a website, even if it's
just a page of links to download the catalogues. No need to be a full
time web developer, they usually produce the *worst* web sites. It
obviously costs him time having to respond to e-mail requests for
catalogues.

Don't be silly. Of course I value reliable suppliers. What's at issue
is a retailer using a blog to advertise goods and having to e-mail to
ask for pdf catalogues. This is the 21st century, after all!

Wild Swan I buy from a very good local stockist. Squires I usually see
at an exhibition but also know that a large portion of their catalogue
is a rip off of the Rapid Electronics catalogue (or at least use to
be). With Squires it's usually their prices I object to, not their
service or website, which is still "to come". How long has it been now?
3 years?
