Odd ICI livery query

On the Stockton on Tees gov local picture site there are a couple of pics of
tank wagons, one in standard class A livery but the other is a bit odd. It
looks like a 14 ton tank but has a white barrel with a broad vertical band
to either ends and the letters ICI writ large on the side. They have a
single traffic star.
Anyone have any idea what the red vertical bands are all about, they
resember the post war compressed gas stripes but they are much broader
(about a foot wide).

The pics are at http://picture.stockton.gov.uk/exhibition.aspx?id=1 the odd
tank is right at the bottom, second line up.

Regards

The second tank wagon looks like an older type - just note the axle
springing and axle boxes for starters, but it's such a poor photograph that
it's practically impossible to ascertain much information from it.

Could it just be an earlier livery, or is this one of the Chlorine tankers
originally modelled by Hornby Dublo in the 1960s and later by Wrenn?

The Wrenn/Dublo looks like it's based on a later Chlorine tanker.

The archive picture looks more like this model, but in the Chlorine livery

I thought the two red bands were a post war 'compressed gas' livery?  The
early post war LPG tankers had a different marking, on the lower sides only
IIRC,  later changed to the red hoops. Chlorine was certainly being shipped
in tankers in the 1930s (including some nice 'hutched tank wagons' with a
conventional (albeit rather small) tank inside a wooden body with peaked
roof and top mounted filling hatch).
A trip to the library is called for methinks.

Thanks for the feedback.

<snip>

Just spotted the 22 ton tare - Looks like it must have been a gas tank then.

ICI had Head Wrightsons @ Teesdale on their doorstep so ‘specials’
must have been no problem.

Didn’t road going Ethylene tankers also have similar markings ?

Having enough trouble with the railway's markings, the roads are a whole
other kettle of worms (just spend several days trying to confirm Shell BP
road tanker liveries in the 1950s - Not easy!
