I am looking at either the Dumas #1234 28" Barrel Back or the #1241 40"
Barrel Back triple cockpit models.  Has anyone built either of these?
I have never built a wood boat before but have built rc cars planes and
trucks.  I also am an avid plastic model kit builder, so I know my way
around.  I am hoping it wont be too difficult but also realize it may
be time consuming.  Im just wondering if anyone else can give me input
on the quality and their experience with these models.

Thanks,
Len

Dumas are the standard bearer for these models.

The models are heavy - and can be ligthened by using lighter woods an
drilling out frames etc. However for the chris crafts the weight i
pretty well scale and the hulls work with a wide range of motors a
scale speed as not that high.

If you would like scale figures for motor speed and prop sizes etc le
me know and i can get you some recommendations - email me a

As a rule I've always disliked the Dumas kits... poor wood, even poorer die
crunching.  Still, the end results I have seen come out looking pretty darn
good.  Just look the kit over carefully when you get it and make sure the
wood looks good.

Have fun!

These are similar in some ways to building a scale model plane but the
emphasis is on careful and painstaking woodworking and finishing technique
if you want a  model to be proud of. There are some tricks and sequence of
assembly and sealing/painting and floatation issues to be aware of if you
intend to run in water. Dumas can provide you additional  how-to information
and refer you to other sources of info. There are forums on RC Groups and
RCUniverse where you can get lots of recommendations.
