New to yachting

Hi, have never done any RC yachting before, but have started to build a 1
meter yacht.

The hull is now ready for the deck, but my worry is the rigging.

Anyone have any links on where I can get help on what to put where?

The yacht is not of any real design, so I understand this will help to make
things impossible ,but surly there is a rule of thumb.

for instance:

the mast, how high?

Is it lined from side to side, and Stem to stern?

What size winch should I use for this model?

Does the winch work both front, and main sail?

Apologies for inaccuracy of terminology, but hope this will improve.

Thanks in advance

Vaughn

You should find some info here for international one meter boats.

http://www.amya.org/iom.html

This site has the rules and build guidelines toward the bottom of the page
in PDF file format.

http://www.radiosailing.org/catalogue.html

There are a lot of links here that may help you.
You might look for a group near where you live on the site posted below, and
find out what is being sailed locally. Clubs are very helpful & friendly.

Good luck, smooth sailing

It didn't dawn on me at the time that poster might not be in the USA,sorry.

You could check with any hobbie supply stores near you though. They may know
of a local group, or start one with some friends with like interests. Post
a note at hobbie supply to find others that may be interested.

Sorry my fault should have said I'm in the UK.

Have looked around my home town, and yes there are many clubs, but just
wanted to have a little play on my own first, to mainly see this is for me,
then if all goes well maybe join a local club.

Unfortunately this was the only new group I could find specifically
concerned with boats, most UK sites found are for aircraft, and cars.

Will still check the licks as they may give the info I need.

Thanks for the reply

Tell me about it! I live in Telford, Shrops and if you have anything
with wings, rotors or 4 wheels your made, if it floats forget it, for
starters you have to join the local mafia club at $45 a year then you
can use one small pool on Wednesday afternoon, you can also use it on
Saturdays but stand a chance of getting your model trashed by full sized
dinghies using the same water,

Sure will. There are three UK based model boat groups on Yahoo,
Modelboats RC, Model ships, and another that escapes me at the moment.

Peterborough is the same. Bloody place is surrounded by water with
flooded gravel pits everywhere but trying to get to sail on one is
almost impossible. We have just been quoted £1.000 per year to sail on a
lake way back of beyond with no facilities at all. In a club with less
than 40 members that's a lot of money once the insurance is paid on top.
Mind you no fishermen or large boats has got to be a good thing. PAMBC
[the local club] has been looking for decent water to sail on for about
eight years having been priced out of their original waters.

The Local Authority is as much use as a used condom and unless one is a
lesbian extremist group or asylum seekers benefit advisory service they
are not interested in providing any assistance at all. It's easier to
get a travellers site set up around Peterborough than to find some water
to sail model boats.

Cheers.
