You don't want a retailer if you are after a bulk buy. If
after only a few, then troll the surplus sites, $2 - 4.00 each.

When someone requests this info I normally ask that they send
me a personal email, since I do not know wether they are a
business that wants to start selling, or just a modeler wanting a
few motors for their latest project. I would hate to spoil things
for an Ebay seller for example.

Actually-
I'm trying to repair a gate opener. The motor burned out on it and the only
place on the web I've been able to find any reference to an RS-550 motor is
in RC cars/boats.
I've checked motor retailers/dealers in google and have come up empty- at
least with dealers that ship to the states. I found a few in the UK.

I've contacted local hobby shops with no luck as well.

The gate opener is a GTO Inc. mighty mule, and after talking to a local gate
opener service person I was quoted roughly $160 bucks for a replacement
the RS-550s I've seen in the UK were selling for ~ $20 US )

I've also seen a few on ebay ($15 for two) but the shafts had been modified
on them and that won't work for me.

Thanks-

OK, there's dozens of these types of motors from places like:
All electronics (like another mentioned)
Herbach & Rademan
Jameco
MECI
MPJA
Elecrtonic Goldmine
Surplus sales of Nebraska
SCIPLUS

Start with these, after you go to the Mabuchi site and get the
basic dimensions for a RS550 motor. The last 2 letters of the
550 motor designation give the motor wind information. You
should easily find a motor that will bolt up in the mechanism
that will work, it might be a few seconds slower or faster
but will work. Other brands of motors have the same mounting
so Igashi, Johnson, and dozens of power screwdrivers
($10.00 @ Harbor Freight) use these 550 size. Pick a screwdriver
with the same or a bit lower voltage if you go this route.
Childrens toy ride on cars also use two of these. Goodwill stores
for $20.00.
