Hi. I am wondering what would be a good ship to start with for a new
modeller. A friend of mine made an R/C PT-109. I really liked his
and want to try one of my own. I am looking at the Blue Devil
Destroyer based on the size and price... but would like to get input
from people who have experience in this hobby.
Thanks in advance.
Jason
Hi Jason,
The Blue Devil is not a bad choice if you are looking for a representation of a
ship, and not a 100% faithful replica of a Fletcher Class DD. Still, I have
seen some presentable models made off of that kit. Once you have that one
under your belt, you can move onto a mixed media kit (fiberglass hull,
plastic/wood decks and structures, resin or metal fittings) made by a company
like Dean's Marine or Caldercraft. When you get one of those puppies done, you
will be able to strike out on your own using just a fiberglass hull or
scratchbuilding everything. When you have a chance, take a peek at my website
for some inspiration and tips. Enjoy your model!
