I am a newbie to R/C boats but have a LOT of
experience with R/C cars...I have an electric boat
(ABC Hobby Super Hawaii) which has:
* 2 550 silver can motors (ie: "stock", "mabuchi")
which power 1 prop
* 2 7.2v battery packs (3300 mah)
* Traxxas/Novak EVX ESC from an E-Maxx w/ a cooling
jacket added
* 1 water pickup installed which uses 3/32" I.D. fuel
tubing
Currently, the cooling system is simple...1 3/32"
line from the pickup, through the ESC cooling jacket,
then out of the boat. But, the ESC jacket has 2
water passages. I saw a Traxxas ad for a boat with
a similar setup (2 motors, same ESC) and they only
had one water passage being used.
* Would installing a "T" so "fresh" water would pass
through both passages help cool the ESC at all? Or
maybe run the same water through one passage then
through the other before exiting the boat?
* The motors get very hot. They are too close to each
other to use cooling tubes which surround the motors.
Would it be helpful to attach some straight brass tubes
to the top of the motors (not much contact area!) and
run water through them? Or should I consider snap-on
aluminum heat sinks combined with better airflow? Any
other ideas? I can post a pic (in the appropriate
group) of the motor setup if necessary.
* Final question for now: Assuming I find something to
cool the motors w/ water, is it possible to cool 2 550
motors AND an ESC using one 3/32" I.D. water pickup?
I'd estimate top speed is about 20mph.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Scott

Do you know if the boat use parallel batteries and parralel motors.
This wiring will cause many heat.
The heat energy on the controller:
P=I^2R
If I halved, P reduced to P/4.

This boat use a.c. motor. The rotor is magnet. Stator is coil, so
cooling is much more effective.
