Hi well i finaly got that hull i wanted for years.. well its not for racing
just for fun... can anyone tell me if i can put a gas or deisel motor in it
and keep it quiet ish !! or will i be best with just a electric motor ?? the
boat is a old woden river cruser... 3 foot 3 inch long by 12 inches.. it has
never had any motor/radio gear fitted and its use will be local park, canal
and the like.but i want it to last more than 15 mins on the batts !!
.. i have a good model engineering background and have even toyed with
steam!!

any advice.. help .. experiances would be of great help..

If you want good duration try powering it with LiPol cells. You'll get
hours!

The R/C car industry is great, but stay away from their motors.
They do nothing but suck amperage and drain batteries. Graupner has
great setups also, but most are designed for speed, not running time.
All graupners seem to use the same motor also, a 540

Look for some low amp draw motors. Local Hospitals have a matainence
section. They will occaisionally have 14 - 24 volt "Pittman" motors
that they need to pull out of medical equipment. Typically
centrifuges. These power my 54"(137cm), 15 lb(33kg) destroyer with no
difficulties. They will run for about more than two hours on 12v 3.5
amp gell cell batteries. The batteries are also give aways at these
facilities. It is good to make friends with hospital employees.

The destroyer uses two of those motors. You could probably run 4-6
hours off one motor. And Heat there is no 'stinking' heat.

If Speed is not an issue than this is the type of motor you want.
"Johnson" and "Maxxon are also good low amp draw motors.
Dumas used to use "pittman" as their 12 volt boat engines.
I am not sure it that is true these days.

Low amp draw, high torqe is best
