On my original plans I called for 1/4 inch ply for all the bulkheads and
stringers inside the boat. I actually ended up using 3/16 inch ply
instead. It's plenty strong enough and saves a little weight. The outer
skin of the hull was made from 1/8"(3mm) luan plywood(also known as
doorskin). In the pics you will also notice that I put 1/4 inch square
strips of wood along the edges of the bottom and sides to give a larger
gluing surface for greater strength. They are glued on so they overlap
the edges of the bottom and then sanded back to match the angle of the
bulkheads so the sides will be flush against them. I do the same thing
along the top of the sides for the deck. I only put a strip of glass
cloth along the keel. The rest of the boat is epoxy coated inside and
out. I have a Zenoah G231PUM in mine and it has been gps'd at 53mph. I
have been running mine for almost 4 years now. It is really good to see
everyone having fun with this and changing it to meet their own needs.
I'll add another post with more photos. Doug
