 i decided to try printing off the plans and sticking them
together but when i measure the sides they come out at 50 inch is this
correct ie does it take into account the curve of the hull to bring it
to 48inch. also should the straighter edge be completely straight or
have a very slight curve. thanks

Yes, the side should be about 50" because of the curve it must go
around. The one edge will be straight for about half it's length and
then start a slow curve down due to the fact that the sides are on
about a 5 degree angle and they must go around the curve.  Doug

:) thanks for that glad all my printing taping and cutting isn't wasted.
hopefully have all my wood cut this weekend. can anyone tell me if there
is perticular kind of ply to use because we had some 4mm stuff at work
left from an internal partition wall. if you try to bend it in to a
curve the laminations split apart.

I used 3/16" birch ply for the internal structure and 3mm luan doorskin
ply for the outer skin.  Doug

thanks although here in the uk we pay twice as much for everything,
you've probably heard the expression rip off britain . so ended up
getting 4mm exterior ply and got 6mm marine ply (red in colour) from an
old sailing dingy i have in my garden. i have cut the parts out and
assembled the bulkheads and stringers, next to see how well the hull
skin fits over it, fingers crossed i dont need to much woodfiller

Thin water - 30 May 2007 18:06 GMT
I had a friend add a string of random letters to the PDF file of the 72"
mono before I printed it out. I just overlapped the printouts and lined
them up with the text for a perfect fit.

This would be a good addidtion to the PDF file of the plans. A group of
words is easier to use than random text since it is easier to find where
to line it up.

This is easier to do than explain.

thats funny thats exactly what was gonna suggest, as it was much easier
to line up the parts that had writing on them.

Im starting my build and am looking for some advice.

Ive have only been able to find 1/4 or 5mm luan is there another option
like a 1/8 ply? Or will the 5mm luan work??

Also are their any tips I should know for building my first boat I am
mechanicly inclined but have never done anything like this??

Thanks

Me i use 1/4 and 1/8 russian plywood and this is the beast for this job.
Russian ply come in 60" x 60" and full birch ply and available in local
store.

The 1/4" or 5mm would be fine for the internal structure of the boat,
but it wouldn't work for the outside. Not only would it add a lot of
weight, but I don't believe it would bend well enough to go around the
curves. I use 3mm or 1/8" luan door skin.  Doug
