I'm not too knowledgeable on electric boats.

Where abouts are you located?  The best bet is to see if there is a
club near you and go and have a look at what is running.

But off the top of my head you will need this gear:

- Steering Servo (high torque would be best)
- Brushless motor
- Electronic Speed Controller to suit motor
- Battery packs to suit motor
- Radio Transmitter and Receiver

If you tell us where you are from, someone might be able to point you to
a nearby club or business that could help.

Where in Melbourne?

Float-a-boat out in Ringworm do boats (surprise!), and a couple of
others, bloke on Wells Road near Frankston, another in Boronia.

Ok in melbourne the club near you is Western Districts Model Boat Club
which is at Cherry Lake, Altona, Melbourne. They did have a website but
it's been taken offline for some reason :(

As for shops

See Tony at http://www.hobbysupplies.com.au
or
Aaron at http://www.ozspechobbies.com/

Not for boats, AFAIRC.

There's Hearn's Hobbies, in Flinders Street, at the west end of the
station, and whatcha-ma-callits in Lonsdale Street, opposite Myers, but
neither are really boat places (at least, they weren't the last time I
went in).

Hmmm, IIRC, the recent Model Boats magazine has a bit on a mob out West,
or possibly North, sadly that mag's at work ATM, I'll look it up.  It's
the one that should be in the newsagent, with the "Skimmer" plans.
