FWIW, on 2 of my boats I cut the stock antenna by 25% and
mounted the antenna vertically in a plastic antenna tube.
On an air boat, I mounted about 30" of antenna wire
horizontally under the deck. The pond I run on only allows
a maximum of about 600 feet of distance between TX and RX
and I've never had a problem with any of the 3 boats. That
said, if you run the antenna inside a brass tube, won't the
tube shield the signal from the antenna?

Thanks all for your advice!
Good point about the aerial *inside* the mast.
That article looks good.
I'll pass all the information on, he'll be very grateful!
Best wishes,
Nick

My father has a tug with the full length of aerial inside the hull which
is then attached to the brass mast, and the range is more than enough to
control it pass what is comfortable to see with the naked eye
