Sport 40s are a popular racing class. The Dave Frank design was the
standard in the early 90s, but is obsolete for racing today. It still makes
a nice semi-scale hydroplane. The boat is capable of speeds in the mid 50
mph range. Today's Sport 40s heat race in the mid 60s, and the
straight-a-way record is over 80 mph. Dave's plans are the only readily
available plans I know about. They may also be available from RC Boat
Modeler magazine.

home entertaining scooting around ont he local waters.. i think its to much
money.. any idea off any magazine that might have had it?
And how come the other models aint available, they have to be built by
someone, to race, right? or its just "rtr" ?
Thanks for the response.

Excellent Sport 40 hulls are readily available from AC Model Boats and RC
Marine Design. See http://www3.telus.net/acboats/index.html and

Let's get this strait you think that he wants too much for the plans?
Exactly what percentage of your budget do you think the plan cost will be in
putting together a Sport 40? Maybe you should consider another class if the
price for the plans will break the bank.

As stated, i am NOT going to go Sport 40 Racing, im just building a similar
model, about half he scale, and need something to work from. So the price is
to much, seeing as we are talking about more or less a "no budget" build,
since i dont even know how well its going to work. Got everything else thats
"pricy" at home allready, old engine, with pullstart, poor pice o sh.t, but
it will do for the purpose to find out if its even a type of working
boat/scale. Radio set up, and so on is allso available.. so all i lack is
the plans, and to make up my mind on material.
Well, since nobody had any ideas, thanks anyway, i'll have to look else
where i guess.

The Dave Frank Sport 40 was originally designed back in 1987. From
then through the time I quit the hobby in 1993 it had undergone a
complete redesign. The new Sport 40 design was based upon the boat
which I used at the time to set the competition oval, and two lap
records. From the pictures I see of Sport 40's on the Internet today,
it looks like what is competitive is much like the design I had back
in 1993. Engines and hardware setups are allot different, but that is
to be expected.
I still am a fan of model boat racing, and maybe in a few years I'll
build one of my Sport 40's and prove my point.
The plans are only available from my website. They cost $20 and that
includes shipping. That is a better price than you will get from any
magazine.
