Bilge pump

My dad has asked me to try and find a small bilge pump for a model boat he
is making (a yacht I believe tho I'm not 100% sure as he was telling me
about another project at the same time). I have had a look on the net for
one but so far I've not found anything suitable, plenty full size versions
but nothing suitable to fit in a model boat.

Any help with pointing me in the right direction would be very much
appreciated.

I'd start looking at an automobile windshield washer pump. It's small, runs
of 12 volts, and you'll find lots of variety in aftermarket pumps at car
parts stores.

If it is for a scale pumping look you are after, there are some micro
diaphragm type submersible fountain pumps that are available. Cannot
remember what they are called but I remember seeing a thread on
RCGroups about it about a year ago, the guys were getting them for
their older style fishing boats etc to give them a really nice scale
look bilge. If you are over in RCGroups, look up a guy called Kmot, he
should be able to give you some advice.

Car windshield pumps will work however they must be installed below the
water line and probably won't last very long being that they aren't
designed to run for long periods. They can also be a pain to prime
sometimes.

Also depending on how big the craft will be, you could also consider a
small outboard 12V fuel pump that the gas guys pump water through their
engines with. They are also a diaphragm type pump.

Thanks for the response guys, I will pass on the info. I found also a
ballast pump used in model submarines which I think may also be of use to
him.

If there is anything else anyone can think of then please let me know.

I'm away for the weekend and away from the computer for 3 days :-) so I
won't be able to respond to anyone till Sunday night.

in regard to you looking for a bildge pump for your boat . ive found no
the ebay website in the usa under r/c boat parts thers is a shop that
sells a small electric bildge pump with a water sencer triger switch
that wurns it on when there is water in the hull and turns of agan when
theres no water . hope this helps. ill try to find where i found it and
try to get back .
