What purpose(s) do the dampers (little rubber rings around the feathering spindle) serve? What would happen if I replaced the dampers with something rigid such as metal rings of the right size?

have a helicopter with an os50 max engine in it Is the liner tapered?Have some compression but very weak engine starts but will not tick over. Took the head of but piston looks ok but when detached from crank will do full stroke and can be removed from top or bottom

Thanks to the good people on this group and a few visits to the local model club I am now decided that I am going to buy a Raptor 50 or 60 with preferably an OS engine but will accept a TT as second best. I intend to fit a top quality gyro - probably a Futaba 401 and matching
