Electric Motor Required10 Aug 2005 04:20 GMT1
I am building a 4m long model submarine and need a motor to turn the prop.
It has to be a large high torque, motor, preferably high rpm. The sub will
have two 12v sealed lead acid batteries on board, and the stall motor
current will determine their size. Does anyone have any ...

Well, I got my Jones & Shioman 540 grinder into the workshop this
week, after a lot of planning.  I have lost count of the number of
people I spoke to about moving it, but the upshot was that anyone with
the right kit to move it (hiab, etc) wanted £150 - £200 to move it.
Depth micrometer usage09 Aug 2005 23:11 GMT5
Some help please.
I'm trying to use a depth micrometer to establish the register of the
groundglass focusing screen in an old camera.  The glass is held by spring
clips so it's quite difficult to tell when the micrometer's rod has just

Are there any exhibitions coming up soon?
Somewhere I can see some mills, lathes, bandsaws and so on from different
manufacturers. Or do they all happen in the winter?
Thanks,

Milling Vice for VMC09 Aug 2005 18:49 GMT5
I'm in the process of buying a VMC mill from Warco and I'm trying to
decide between the various types and sizes of milling vice.  I see J&L
have the Titelock 6" vice at £85+ but how does this compare with the
Vertex K-series vices ?  Chronos also have a 4" tilting/swivelling vice

Respectfully,

News problems again, or is everyone gone for the summer?09 Aug 2005 05:11 GMT3
I have had problems in the past with my ISP's news server, but it SEEMS
to be working okay now.  But the average new message count seems to be
around 25 to 30.  Am I missing a lot of messages?  I can remember when
this group had well over a hundred messages a day.
Italian MBT Ariete: which colours?08 Aug 2005 15:20 GMT4
I must premise that I'm not a really expert modelist.
I have recently bought the Trumpeter 1/35 model of Italian MBT Ariete.
I don't know which colours to use to paint this tank. The box
explanations are not so clear (they say: "TC10"). I think it's the

I need a good book on how to build plastic models.08 Aug 2005 12:32 GMT6
I have a 1:350 Bismarck plastic that I want to build correctly (not
like I did when I built models as a kid and slopped glue all over, had
brush marks in the paint, etc., etc.)  What is a good book that would
tell me what I need to know: how to sand off sprue marks, how and what

? about Pigments08 Aug 2005 03:03 GMT2
I'm looking into getting some pigments for weathering my WWII German armor -
mostly for making mud and dust effects.
I've found both MIG and MMP. They both seem like fine products but I'm not
sure which would be a better value for the money. I noticed that MMP jars
