What life can be expected from a long-case clock if the pinions are made from unhardened steel, either mild steel which has not been case-hardened, or tool steel in its annealed state?

Anyone got an idea for how I can bring the fuselage of a 1:32 Revel Ki-61 Tony back in line. It's an old kit that may have been stored hot sometime, I got it recently with all parts and a yellow decal sheet. One or two parts were off

It seems I'm behind the eight ball on this but is there anyone/anyplace that has any of these sets available? Some retailers tell me they expect orders to be filled in a couple weeks and others tell me Waldron's gone and no more are available.
