3 Phase electricity14 Jul 2006 07:47 GMT25
Could someone please explain why you have 3 phase lathes etc at home? I
would have thought converting 230-240V single phase to 3 phase, then driving
a motor with the 3 phase would be less efficient that just driving a motor
with single phase...Is there something I'm not getting?
Carbide Inserts TNMG and TCMT14 Jul 2006 01:08 GMT6
Upto now I've been using homeground HSS tools,  but having turned (pardon
the pun) to machining some cast iron pulleys,  finally resorted to carbide
tipped tools.  Now I'm hooked.
When are TNMG style tips best and when are TCMT the ones to use?

the box cover, would they also be added to a train? Could I get away
with adding one? The more I think about this loco the more loco i ...
Masking - Advice to a beginner13 Jul 2006 01:56 GMT11
I'm back to modelling after many years, and have discovered that my
attention to detail has gone up with my increased (since being a kid)
attention span.
Along with learning how to use filler, dry-brushing and air-brushing, I'm
liquid masks?13 Jul 2006 00:19 GMT3
Pros, cons, particular brands?  I have bottles of Ambroid EZ Mask,
Microscale, Parma International and a latex/ammonia based liquid frisket
from Hobby Lobby.  The ammonia-based one I've had problems with over
acrylic for what are now obvious reasons.  The others I haven't tried yet.
Airfix F-105?12 Jul 2006 17:02 GMT4
In the window of a local toyshop today, I noticed an Airfix F-105F/G
Thunderchief kit.
I can't find any reference to the kit on the Airfix website or at Hannants.
Is this a new kit from Airfix?  It is certainly in a modern style box.  Or
This group is for propheads...12 Jul 2006 16:20 GMT3
Sorry for all the questions, I'm a screwhead and it seems that all the
naval buffs have left the shores.

old lathe tools12 Jul 2006 14:28 GMT4
Just in an idle moment it occurred to me that some of my lathe tools a
really old ..... like possibly 100 years old. I say that as I have had my
Myford S7 for some 50 years and shortly after I obtained it a very kind
retired father of a friend gave me his box of old lathe tools. So ...
Removing Decals?12 Jul 2006 10:51 GMT2
Had some decals curl up the wrong way under the influence of MicroSol
and I need to remove them.  Any suggestions on how to remove decals
without removing the (Tamiya acrylic) paint underneath?
Thanks in advance,

Is Revell still considered a top-shelf reproducer regarding scale and
detail?

Mono Ethyl Glycol12 Jul 2006 08:01 GMT13
Anyone know a UK source of Mono-Ethyl-Glycol ? I need about 15 litres
or so.
NB although this is an antifreeze it is NOT normal automotive
antifreeze (which I think is Ethylene-Glycol) as it apparently has
1/72 RC-135V:Instructions Needed12 Jul 2006 01:52 GMT1
I was wondering if anyone could direct me to where I might find a set of
instructions for this model.  The model is the AMT 1/72 RC-135V with the
long nose.  I have tried the Racing Champions website with no success.
Does anyone know of a website where the instructions might have ...

Quorn, anyone?11 Jul 2006 13:42 GMT13

I got the nice book "The Quorn" by Prof. Chaddock recently (thanks again
